COELAS Center for Online Education, Learning, and Academic Services
Online Education Team: Supports and works with the academic units in the allocation of time and resources to design, develop, implement, evaluate, and revise courses. Learning and Academic Services Team: Works with the academic units to support student learning that includes the Library, Career Services, and contracted third party vendors such as Smarthinking and Grammarly.

How does COELAS support courses?
Each academic unit receives an entire landing field with an allotted number of landing strips New Course Development- 6 landing strips for design & development Major Course Revision- 6 landing strips for design & development Minor Course Revision- 2 landing strips Programming Video creation/editing Multimedia design and development

Current Course Development Process
6 landing-strip process for new development or major revisions 4 strips allocated to content development 2 strips for programming Can be completed in 6 or less months

Faculty Program Director Subject Matter Expert “The Faculty Program Director provides academic leadership for the development and management of school curricula and courses, and development of faculty and staff, facilitation of student learning and student support.” “A subject-matter expert (SME) provides knowledge and/or experience in a particular area or topic, as part of a development team. In collaboration with the FPD, the SME may: Author the syllabus including: course outcomes, course description, and course materials (i.e. textbooks, articles, open educational resources, etc.).”

Instructional Designer Course Development Specialist “The Instructional Designer collaborates with the SME and FPD to assist with the development of learning outcomes, instructional strategies, and assessments from kick-off through post-premiere review. The Instructional Designer provides support and advice throughout the course development.” Program approved course content placed within the blackboard shell Develop multimedia as requested Term-to-term cleanup and dates

Quality Matters College-wide quality assurance and collegial review process: internal and external course review process Assures the quality of our courses informed by a guiding rubric of Design Standards that reflect current research findings and national standards of best practice in online learning Alignment among our course and module outcomes, the assessment and learning activities and materials Module template updated for standard 2.4: To explicitly demonstrate that the relationship between module learning outcomes or competencies and course activities is clearly stated. Accessibility and usability for all learners

004 Changes Links in the Learning Resources section of the purple tool bar have been renamed and re-ordered. The Support & Help page has been renamed "Support and Services." Additionally, the page was updated with descriptions of the services provided so students know what each type of service is for. The Start Here - Course Information page has been updated with new screen shots and clearer instructions. Users may also print the page using the "Printer Friendly version" link at the top of the page.
