6 TYPES OF SCHOOLS STATE SCHOOL – non fee paying school run by state
For Secondary: a.) Comprehensive School- a state school where students of all abilities are taught together b.) Grammar School – a school for children with high academic abilities

7 PRIVATE SCHOOL – fee paying school sometimes connected with one religion PUBLIC SCHOOL – fee paying school that is long established a.) Boarding School – a school where the students live b.) Single Sex School – all boys / all girls school

8 PRIMARY STAGE 5 – 11 years old
INFANT SCHOOL -(5 -7 years old) – Emphasis on the 3R’s : Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic JUNIOR SCHOOL ( 7 years old – 11 years old) – Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science

9 STANDARD ASSESSMENT TEST
Test that students take at the ages 7, 11 and 14 , to see whether they have reached the standard set by the national curriculum. 11+ / ELEVEN PLUS EXAM -It examines the ability of students to solve problems using verbal and non verbal reasoning Determines whether a student will go to a grammar school or a comprehensive school.

10 SECONDARY STAGE/ LEVEL
11 – 16 years old Year Subjects: Art, Geography, Music, History, Design and Technology, Information and Communications Technology, Physical Education, Religious Education, Sex and Relationship Education, Careers Education, Citizenship.

11 GENERAL CERTIFICATE ON SECONDARY EDUCATION
Test taken by 15/16 year old students Usually taken in 5 subjects Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Science Additional Subjects: Music, Art and etc. Marks the end of the compulsory education Students have the choice to work or continue to further studies

12 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
School lasts from 9 am – 3:20/5:00 pm Lessons are 1 hour 15 minutes long Usually breaks lasts 20 minutes Usually lunch breaks last an hour and fifteen minutes.
