The Joy: Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD.“ The word for glad means “to brighten up”. Consider how Jonathan brightened up when he ate of the honey in 1 Sam 14:27. Is not the word sweeter than honey and the honeycomb?

The Joy: Psalm 122:1 The Burden: Malachi 1:12-13a “But you profane it, in that you say, ‘the table of the LORD is defiled; and its fruit, its food, is contemptible.‘ You also say, ‘oh, what a weariness!' and you sneer at it"

The Joy: Psalm 122:1 The desire to worship “I get to / have the chance to assemble” The Burden: Malachi 1:12-13a The compulsion to worship “I have to worship” 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

WORSHIPPER

10 The Purposeful Cheerful Worshipper
Cheerful because: Rejoices at the love of God John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

11 The Purposeful Cheerful Worshipper
Cheerful because: Rejoices at the love of God Gratitude for forgiveness of sins Matthew 9:2b When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."

12 The Purposeful Cheerful Worshipper
Cheerful because: Rejoices at the love of God Gratitude for forgiveness of sins Thankful for an eternal home 1 Peter 1:8-9 Whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls.

13 The Purposeful Cheerful Worshipper
Purposeful because: Attentive to the desires of God Mindful of who is being worshipped

14 The Grudging Worshipper
Grudging because: Sees worship as a burden Regrets being called to offer worship A mindset of “MUST” over “WANT” In our last study we said that we need to combat in ourselves a mindset of MY WAY verses HIS WAY. Now we must fight the conflict of MUST vs. WANT

15 At the Heart of Worship God revealed the means of worship not out of demand for satisfaction, but out of benevolence to those who want to worship Him.
