THE DISTANCE, SPEED, TIME TRIANGLE
You might get asked to work out speed, distance or time from the two other numbers. 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒=𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑥 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑= 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒= 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑 The distance, speed, time formula triangle can help you rearrange the equations correctly. Distance is at the top and speed and time below. Distance Speed Time

x THE DISTANCE, SPEED, TIME TRIANGLE Distance? Speed Time
CALCULATING DISTANCE If you are asked to calculate Distance you can see from the triangle that the speed and time are next to each other at the bottom. You multiply speed and time to get the distance. Question: If speed is 25km/h and time is 3 hours, what is the distance? Distance? x Speed Time

÷ THE DISTANCE, SPEED, TIME TRIANGLE Distance Speed? Time
CALCULATING SPEED If you are asked to calculate Speed you can see from the triangle that distance is over time. You divide distance by time to calculate speed. Question: If distance is 250km and time is 5 hours, what is the speed? Distance ÷ Speed? Time

÷ THE DISTANCE, SPEED, TIME TRIANGLE Distance Speed Time?
CALCULATING TIME If you are asked to calculate Time you can see from the triangle That distance is over speed. You divide distance by speed to calculate time. Question: If distance is 100m and time is 10 seconds, what is the speed? ÷ Distance Speed Time?

THE DISTANCE, SPEED, TIME TRIANGLE
Use the formula triangle to answer these questions: A cyclist travels at 15km/h for 75km with no stops. How long did it take? A car travels at 60mph for 3 hours. How far did it go? The athlete ran 800m in 200 seconds. How fast did they run? D S T
