Cost of Defense- British protecting colonies from Indians and foreign attackers was expensive colonists had to pay Salutary Neglect- Distance from Britain allowed colonies to develop their own customs fueled colonies sense of Independence Navigation Acts- colonies forced to provide goods for England at expense of their needs and desires colonists wanted to conduct their own business
