Presentation on theme: "Factors Affecting Climate (in Atlantic Canada)"— Presentation transcript:

1 Factors Affecting Climate (in Atlantic Canada)
Latitude Air masses Ocean currents Proximity to water

2 Latitude Because the earth’s surface is curved, sunshine is more intense in lower latitudes (i.e. closer to the equator).

3 Air masses Continental Arctic Air Mass feels cold and dry
Maritime Tropical Air Mass feels warm and moist Maritime Polar Air Mass feels cool and moist Fronts bring about changes in weather When cold dry air meets warm moist air we get precipitation

4 Ocean Currents The Gulf Stream brings warmth
The Labrador Current bring cold waters When warm moist air (G.S.) meets the cold waters (L.C.) it cools forming fog

5 Proximity to Water Water, and the air over it, heats up and cools down more slowly than land Areas close to large bodies of water stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter (inland areas are the opposite)
