5 Who Eats Whom? Using the pictures at your table, determine the order of which organism eats which organism. You have a fish, a pelican, a sea slug, phytoplankton, and zooplankton Who eats whom?

6 FOOD CHAIN: a straight-line sequence of organisms that feed on one another to obtain energy

30 The best way to illustrate energy flow in an ecosystem is with an ecological pyramid. This allows you to more clearly examine each individual trophic level.

31 Ecological pyramid: shows the amount of energy available in each tropic level in an ecosystem

32 Only 10% of the energy available is passed from one trophic level to the next. This is called the 10% Rule. The rest of the energy is lost as heat.
