3 WHY HISTORY? What is the underlying meaning (message) of the Santayana quote? What events do you think mankind has learned from (or should)? Why else is history (especially Global History) a useful course of study?

6 GLOBAL HISTORY Why is the world becoming increasingly interdependent?
Can you think of some examples of the world’s interdependence? Homework: due Tuesday, September 12th Create either a political cartoon or a poster illustrating the Santayana or Lord Acton quote. 7 GLOBAL HISTORY Global History relies heavily on cultural history. In order to write history, including cultural history, historians rely upon various fields in the social sciences. Can you identify some fields of the social sciences?

8 Archaeology Activity Make a list of five (5) artifacts that you believe are representative of American culture today.

What happened to our nation on September 11th, 2001? (How…) What group was responsible for this attack? Who was/is the leader of the group that orchestrated this attack? How many individuals were directly involved in the 9/11 attack on our nation? What nations were the hijackers from? What country was responsible for giving a“safe haven” to Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda? What was our government’s immediate response to the attack? Do you remember where you were when you learned of the attack? How has life changed since the attack of September 11th, 2001?

DO NOW: What is archaeology? Are the findings of archaeologists theory or fact? Take out vocabulary list.

DO NOW: What is anthropology? What is culture? What is cultural diffusion? Why does cultural diffusion occur so rapidly in the world today? Provide an example of cultural diffusion today.
