1 The Cover Letter Session 6 The covering letter is vital to your CV.
This is why it is the first page and not an addition.

2 Why is a covering letter
The Cover Letter Why is a covering letter so important for all jobseekers? The covering letter helps an employer decide whether to read your CV or ignore it. Therefore, you have to ensure that your covering letter stands out from the rest and grabs an employer’s attention. You need to dedicate time and effort to write an effective covering letter. Session 6 - Cover Letter

10 Your personal Cover Letter
Try to do it yourself in a real situation! Write a complete cover letter to answer a real advertisement of a job opportunity. Use some information that you have included in your CV… Session 6 - Cover Letter

11 The Motivation Letter Useful to apply for Erasmus+,
internships or voluntary activities Writing the motivation letter is an important step in the application procedure - it is the basis on which the organising group/company/ Internship offer selects their participants! But… Where do I start? What should I say? What shouldn't I say? Session 6 - Cover Letter

12 Where to start? ? Before applying to any company/internship, you should read the information on the institution webpage very carefully. Companies receive hundreds of letters per week! If you want your letter to stand out, then try to be creative and surprising and capture the attention of your reader. Needless to say, the letter must be written in English or any local language. Session 6 - Cover Letter

13 What to write about? ? Something about yourself - what do you study, what do you do in your life, what are your hobbies, the sports you practice, maybe even what languages you speak... Why do you want to go abroad, and why do you want to go to that company or join that organisation! It is important for the organisers to have open-minded people. Why do you want to go to THIS particular placement you're applying for? Why is the training attractive? How will the knowledge you gain there help you (in your studies, in your future career...)? Explain why you want to go to that city or country so badly! It's recommended that you do a small research of the place you're applying to before writing your motivation letters. Famous monuments, typical foods and drinks, traditions etc. Organisers like it when applicants show a real interest for the location they're applying to. What do you have to offer the company? In other words, why should the organisers pick YOU? Session 6 - Cover Letter

14 What not to do? ? Be formal. A motivation letter is NOT a CV. They want to know more about you and what you're like! You aren't allowed to insert pictures or links in your motivation letter. Be careful, and send the appropriate letter to the appropriate place. Copy-pasting motivation letters isn't very recommended. You have to make each motivation letter unique! Don't make the letter too long! Half to one A4 page is good, and should be enough to get to know you.. Session 6 - Cover Letter

15 A special situation: the Motivation Letter For instance, if you are
an Erasmus+ student... Cut out each paragraph of a motivation letter and put them in a logical order. Add a suitable new paragraph for each different country. Session 6 - Cover Letter Session 6 - Cover Letter
