Some important terms during reading are Spine of the book Front and back cover Reading left to right Reading top to bottom Pictures give clues to words Give exposure to reading and books Know letters and sounds Pointing to words as you practice with them Some important terms to teach is: Spine of the book Front and back cover Reading left to right Reading top to bottom Pictures give clues to words Phonics- how to sound out words Phonemic awareness- skills that helps manipulate language Fluency- ability to read with accuracy and speed Comprehension-understanding of material Vocabulary- words during reading that help us understand material In order for students to be successful during reading they need to know Letters and sounds Blending One-to one word pointing Segmentation of words Decoding words For Families For Teachers
