2 WHO ARE THE FRIENDS? WHAT DO WE DO? WHAT CAN YOU DO?
The Friends of MHCHS are the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school. As the parent or carer of a child at MHCHS you are automatically a member of the Friends. There is an elected committee that meets on the first Tuesday of most months. Dates are posted on the MHCHS website. Any member is welcome to come along and join in discussions and decisions. WHAT DO WE DO? We raise and donate money for the school to purchase new equipment or for refurbishment to enable our children to have a better learning environment. Previous fund raising projects include Tiered Seating in the Main Hall, the ‘Benson’ Cricket Nets, Mini Buses, ‘Rain/Sun shelter Canopies’ and refurbishment of the School Lockers. Please see photographs overleaf. WHAT CAN YOU DO? JOIN IN! - Everyone can contribute something, and maybe help with one of the events.  Whether it is selling Kit-Kats and water on an evening event, setting up and selling used uniform or helping out at the annual BBQ.  We also have the open evening in September where we sell refreshments to parents visiting the school with prospective future students. Please attend one of our meetings and join in the conversations. Your help and support would be greatly appreciated regardless of how much or little time you have available. Even half an hour can make a difference! WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM? We ask for a voluntary donation from parents when their child joins the school. Most parents pay annually by Direct Debit but donations can be made via ParentPay. Donations vary and have been up to £500 per child per year, so whatever you feel comfortable contributing is happily received. A suggestion is at least £50 per child per annum. In addition, if you are a UK taxpayer and sign a Gift Aid declaration, as a registered charity, we can obtain a tax rebate of 25%. This makes your donation even more valuable and is our main source of income. Please make sure you have set up your direct debit. WHAT ELSE DO WE DO? Our meetings provide a forum for parents to ask questions and find out information about issues at the school. If you are unable to attend a meeting, please sign up for PTA s. This means you can still join in with discussions and help to decide where your money is spent. In return the school is kept informed of parent’s views and concerns. We also provide refreshments on open evenings, hold used uniform sales and assist the school in running the BBQ for the new Year 7 intake. HOW DO I FIND OUT MORE?
