WEBQUEST

2 INTRODUCTION This web quest was done in order to introduce you to the topic of input and input devices. This should enhance your knowledge as to how the computer accepts data and from it is accepted from.

3 PROCESS Click on the links to take you through this webquest. NB: Check out the resources that are available on input whenever you have the chance to. Click on Input to see start the lesson.

4 Input Input is the process of entering data, commands and instructions into the computer system for processing. This is done with the use of some devices called Input devices.

5 Input Devices An input device is a hardware that allows the computer user to enter data and instructions into the computer system. Examples: Mouse, Keyboard, Touchpad, Joystick, Touchscreen, Microphone, Digital Camera, Trackball, Light pen, Etc. These devices comes under four Categories of input.

6 Categories of Input Keyboard Entry Devices Pointing Devices
Source Data Entry Devices Multimedia Input Devices

7 KEYBOARD ENTRY DEVICE This is the most important input device. This device is mainly used for typing, performing calculation on a computer or playing games. exit

8 POINTING DEVICES This type of input is mainly used to move a pointer (cursor) on a screen. Pointing devices may also be used to select, drag, or double-click things. exit

9 Trackball Touchpad Light pen Touchscreen Joystick exit

10 SOURCE DATA ENTRY DEVICES
These devices are used to collect data at the source and send it directly to the computer, thus eliminating the possibility human errors in data entry. These devices include: Optical Character Reader OCR, Barcode Reader, Magnetic Ink Character Reader (MICR), Optical Mark Reader, Scanner. exit
