3 Lesson 1.3 How are personality and learning styles related to interest, values, skills, and aptitudes? For example, are outgoing people more likely to be interested in sports.

4 Exploring Your Personality
What is personality? Personality is the sum of your feelings, actions, habits and thoughts. It’s what makes you different from everyone else. Your personality makes you a unique individual. Imagine a world in which everyone had the same personality? What special quality of yous would people miss. What special quality of a friend would you miss?

7 Learning Styles Learning styles are the different ways people naturally think and learn. When you are aware of your learning style, you can determine the best approach for you. And can also determine which career areas are right for you. Look at the learning styles in Figure 1.5, pg 16.

8 Self Awareness and Career Strategy
Why think of your personality? Why figure out what kind of learner you are? Your personality will affect your work and the people you work with. Knowing your learning styles will help you take the best approach to learning new things on the job. Knowing your thoughts, feelings and actions is self awareness which is a key to career exploration. Self-aware people are able to effectively set and achieve goals.

9 Considering Career Options
Once you have learned about yourself, you should learn about career options. One way to learn about career options is to study career clusters. A career cluster is a group of similar occupations and industries. Each cluster covers a major segment of the economy (manufacturing, finance or government and public administration). See inside of back cover for list of the 16 Career Clusters. In each chapter of textbook you will learn about a different career cluster. The Investigating Career Clusters feature on page 19 will help to explore career clusters

10 Assignments Complete the following statement: “By knowing myself better I will be better able to choose a career because…” Complete the Lesson 1.3 Review Activities 1-6 on page 18. Complete the Chapter 1 Review and Activities 1-10, page 20. Be ready for a test over chapter 1.
