Welcome to the Analytical Laboratory (AL), a professional service unit has extensive analytical laboratory facilities with advanced equipment. These facilities are supported by skilled staff with proven experience covering a wide range of work in product and process development, trouble-shooting and environmental technology.

The AL is a quantity of state-of-the-art analytic service center, including facilities for specimen preparation, vibrational spectroscopy, ultraviolet and visible absorption spectroscopy, particle sizer, scanning electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, automated gas sorption analyser, ion chromatograph, liquid/gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer, rheology measurement, light microscopy and others. A full list of the analytical facilities can be found under Facilities. The research applications of AL facilities include but not limited to: chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, mineralogy, environmental, polymer science and food science. The instruments open access not only to university students, but also to industry, government and not-for-profit organisations.

All the users MUST complete the required work health and safety training before accessing to AL, including WHS induction, CBE school safety induction, chemical safety and hazard identification and risk assessment form.

8. Analytical Laboratory

The Analytical Training Plan for each month can be found via this link.
All users MUST complete a new user training session for each instrument before they can operate any instruments unsupervised:
1) Full Supervision Session
bring your samples
a hazard identification & risk assessment form
send electronic copy of Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to the trainer after this training session
2) First Run Session under Supervision
bring your SOP
certificate will be issued if you passed this training session
After receiving your certificate, you need to fill in swipe card access form and get signature from Dr. Jeffrey Shi before independently utilizing any instruments.

Please book the facility online:
These are online booking policies:
MUST make booking online for each instrument.
ONLY use the instrument during the booking time.
No booking after hours (ONLY between 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays).
No more than 3 days booking per week for each instrument.
Reschedule or cancel your booking in at least 24 hours before your booking time.
Contact the corresponding trainer as soon as possible if you want to cancel the facility booking within 24 hours.
Penalties:
1st time: a kindly reminder will be sent to you.
2nd time: a warning will be sent to you and forward to your supervisor.
3rd time: your account will be suspended for two weeks and will be sent to you, forward to your supervisor and Dr. Jeffrey Shi.
