2 Here’s a simple thesis statement:
Topic - (subject) Cell phone use while driving Your Position – (opinion) is harmful Why – (because) because it puts the driver and other drivers at risk.

3 Now let’s add some adjectives & more descriptive verbs
Topic - (subject) Texting and making calls on a cell phone, while driving Your Position – (opinion) is hazardous and often deadly Why – (because) because it puts not only the driver, but also their passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians at risk of injury or death.

4 Simple Thesis Statement
Topic - (subject) Eating disorders Your Position – (opinion) can be attributed to the media Why – (because) because the portrayal of thin and beautiful models puts pressure on the average teen.

5 Now let’s add some adjectives & more descriptive verbs
Topic - ( subject) Teenage eating disorders Your Position – (opinion) can be attributed to the media’s bombardment of ultra thin models and actresses Why – (because) because it pressures teens to have the same look and body, even though it is grossly unhealthy.

6 Now it’s your turn!!! Topic - ( subject) Your Position – (opinion)

7 Now add some descriptive verbs, adjectives, and adverbs
Topic - ( subject) Your Position – (opinion) Why – (because)

8 Now on the back of your note card, write a complete thesis sentence.
Replace one or two words in each of the three areas, with an even more descriptive word or words, as you accurately record your revised and focused thesis sentence.
