3 Unpack(ing) Listing all the verb noun agreements in the steps to Embedded Assessment 2.

4 EA: Brainstorming Chart, p. 62 On a separate sheet of paper, recreate the chart found on page 62 of your Spring Board text books. WITH A PARENT complete the entire chart. For the row labeled “Other”, make sure to add another area in your life in which you’ve experienced change. Be Neat. Plan ahead. Make it fit legibly. DUE: Thursday, May 12, 2011 – PROJECT GRADE Friday, May 13, 2011 – PROJECT GRADE

5 Prewriting EA: Full Explanation A Full Explanation of My Significant Change 1) Why the change happened. (cause) 2) The impact the change had in my life. (effect)

6 EA: DRAFTING Introductory Paragraph: Include…. A good hook. Describe many ways that you’ve change (Physically, Intellectually, and Emotionally) in the specific area of your life (Responsibilities; Family relationships and/or Structure; Friends; Hobbies/Interests; School; or Other). A thesis statement that includes your topic; and your opinion, the effect of the change.

7 EA: DRAFTING Body Paragraph(s) Include…. Topic sentence Examples how you changed. Explanations why you changed Descriptive words Adjectives & Adverbs Transitions

8 EA: DRAFTING Concluding Paragraph Include…. Topic sentence The importance of the change. The impact the change has in your life now and in the future. What you learned/realized/looking forward to. Transitions – cause/effect & before/after Semicolons Create a title.

9 EA: Self-Assessment Add Similes – to make descriptions and explanations clearer. Add semicolons – to combine short related sentences. ---------------------------------------------------- Highlight (different colors): –Transitions –Semicolons –Descriptive language ---------------------------------------------------- Read softly to self – correct any mistakes along the way. ---------------------------------------------------- Score your draft (p: 66-67) – Make notes of ways to improve your essay in margins, or sticky notes.

10 EA: Reader Response Read the entire expository essay very carefully. Underline especially visual and vivid descriptions. Put a star by one area that can benefit from more detail. Suggest a new hook. Explain in your own words how the writer has changed (on a sticky note).

11 EA: Editing & Publishing Look at Reader Response comments: –Add details in the margin near any stars. –Consider the suggested new hook. –Check to see if they understood how you changed. Replace the word “change” with synonyms. (If you have not used the word change, create a sentences to end your conclusion that uses a synonym for the word change.) Carefully check your sentences -fragments/run-ons -punctuations (semicolons, commas, periods)

12 EA: Editing & Publishing Final copy must be error-free (Spelling, capitalization, sentence structure, essay organization). Type your final copy: Font MUST be Arial, 12, black. DOUBLE SPACE ESSAY Due On or Before: Tuesday, May 31, 2011 (A-Day) Wednesday, June 1, 2011 (B-Day) The following Must be turned in: 1. Unpacking steps 2. Chart 3. Full Explanation 4. Draft 5. Final copy - typed

13 Final Draft Use this time to create a clean draft adding all the changes you applied to while editing. Skip lines when writing. Purpose: To have a clean copy to view when reviewing with a parent and typing.
