4 So how do we get there? U9 and U10 teams mirror our U11 goal.
Two top teams and two lower teams at U11 sets up for teams at all three levels (C1/C2/C3) at U12 U9 and U10 team formation will start us down this road.

5 What are the problems we encounter with the new direction?
We were not as dominant at the U9-U11 age groups At U11 We lost 3 players who were not interested in creating a strong age group as they couldn’t see past their own child’s winning record At U11 Our classic 3 teams struggled as more stronger players were pulled up to the top level We were overly strong at the U12 age group at two levels We had more teams playing classic 3 than we needed at U12 At U12 we lost 2 players who were searching for that quick classic 1 placement

6 What worked ? We developed a solid group of 20 players at U9-U11
At U13 we have a stepping stone and it is attainable with more opportunities for all players We did all of this with 99.5% non recruited players Although rostered at a level that was too low for the team the coaches entered the team into tournaments at a higher level The top team at each age level was put under pressure not just to contain the best players but to be the better team and outplay rather than out run, out muscle or even outscore the opponents This next year we are restructuring the master coach program and adding a Technical Coach to spend more time with players on the basic things As we have improved the top, stabilized the middle our job over the next year is to push the lower half harder

22 Goals and Objectives CC United coaches are given goals and objectives for their own age group . These objectives have 7 month in which to be achieved and are shared with the parents and players, allowing them to see beyond results for a measure of success. The objectives are both team and player orientated and will set a precedent of what the coach will be covering in all practices. Using this format will ensure that each player receives specific age appropriate training at the correct time in the year and this will also will serve as a form of self evaluation for each of the coaches. The development topics increase in difficulty as the team gets older and increases in ability. It is recommended that the coaches go through the younger age groups topics before progressing giving the players a foundation to build on Two types of training – Technical and Functional with a ratio of 4-1 When the season begins each player will have received a session in all techniques so the remaining two and a half months will focus in on either a high usage techniques (passing/Dribbling/receiving) or one specific technique that the team is having trouble with that is affecting their performance in games. Defending At U11 and 12 a minimal (3 -6 sessions) amount time will be spent working on defending. The coach will help improve the player’s ability to win possession through correct body shape, distance to the ball and patience. The coach will stress the importance of team shape and positional awareness (where you are and who you cover) as we defend in two’s (wide players) or three’s (central players, complete or complete zones). At U11 most of the time will be spent coaching positive techniques stressing the importance of maintaining possession successfully or creating and converting scoring opportunities .

24 We will strive to win not to win at all costs
Playing Time Playing time in the competitive program is earned not guaranteed. If a player attends practices and demonstrates a high work rate then that player is entitled to play. If a player cant make practice it is their responsibility to let the coach know. CC United coaches do not look to develop a strong line up to win games. They will strive to develop the team and the committed players within to be as competitive as possible We will strive to win not to win at all costs

31 Parent Education To the parents of the U12 Girls team
To the parents of the u11 Boys team This past week in our two practices we worked on passing back to the goalkeeper and long distance passing. For our long distance passing we worked on the position of the non kicking foot and the striking area of the ball. Most of the Boys were able to pass the ball across the width of the field. This is something they can strive to complete by the end of the season. Please try to recognize the difference between a long distance pass and a boot up the field. A pass is purposeful and to someone’s feet or to a specific space that they can run onto. At many a game we hear the call “GOOD BOOT” when there were better options and from it the player takes praise and recognition The reason we pass back to the goalkeeper is to eliminate pressure from an opponent that plays constant long passes or boot ball. Most teams we play against just kick the ball out in panic or try to turn. Turning in this situation is risky as the player on the ball cannot see the field and booting it out gives the ball to the other team closer to our goal. We want our kids to be comfortable in this high pressure environment. The problem on receiving the pass is that the goalkeeper cannot use her hands so we then need our supporting players to get wide and get ready to receive the ball. If we are successful we will eliminate teams that only play direct and we also draw the opponents closer to our goal creating more space closer to theirs. This style may create mistakes that are costly so please be ready to support the player who attempts this as the rewards far outweigh the risks. Between now and the next game try to watch a game of soccer with your daughter and see how the professional teams use their goalkeeper In our next game if our players make a long pass or show body language to pass back to the goalkeeper then they have been successful Jonathan Tudor Director of Coaching CC United Soccer Club To the parents of the U12 Girls team This last practice we worked on passing for a purpose and looked to possess the ball. This will improve our attacking ability as with more passes and more movement comes different opportunities to attack the goal. This week will be an excellent opportunity to do so as we have already played and beaten very handily Sunderland the Team we play next. The goal of games when we clearly will be the stronger team is not to run up the score and create scoring records but to take something from it to better prepare us for a higher level of competition. In this next game if we are comfortable we will put on the following condition on the players. In our half of the field each player will be allowed no more than 3 consecutive touches of the ball and in the opposing half the players will be allowed no more than 1. In our games that we will be strong we will never tell our team not to score nor to achieve a pass count as that is fake to the games demands but playing with less touches will improve our passing and moving ability as playing with less touches requires better passing, quicker movement and good awareness. If we are able to maintain possession for long periods of time and players move to support while the ball is traveling to the next player then the players have been successful

32 U11/12 Game Objectives

33 Game Objectives Introduction
When teams play, the players, coaches and parents all walk away with one thing in common knowledge. The result and how it happened. Who scored the goals, what the referee did and what other outside factors were in play to affect the score of the game. They focus on how their child played and praise their performance without understanding the requirements are in any one position on the field. Starting 2008 the coaches and players at CC United will look to achieve certain objectives in each game. The Objectives will not only aid their team performance but will also look to give players a better understanding on how the team works and how to play their position. This will also put more pressure on the coach, who must devise a practice during the week to work on the game objective. For many years the coach has always taken the team away from the parents leaving them unaware on what has been worked on or the development process the players go through. Understanding the game is a massive concept and is one that is too big to try and tackle in one piece. Procedure Each week the coach will work on a theme and lead it into a game objective. The game objectives are listed in order that the players need to accomplish. It may be possible to achieve more than one objective in a game. The coach will move on when the team demonstrates a recognition of when/ how to execute In the following slides are a list of game objectives. The coach will replace the formation with players names and print a copy for the players before each game. The players then share this information with the parents.

34 To maintain our Team shape 1-3-3-1
Game Objective 1 To maintain our Team shape Our shape expands in possession, covering as much of the field that can be passed to in relation to the teams leg strength and constrict in defense with players making distance adjustments based on the quality in certain positions that the opponents have Our Shape (including GK) should move forward and backwards in relation to the ball

35 Game Objective 2 To get the outfield players comfortable in changing positions during the game whilst maintaining our team shape

36 To get the back players comfortable in playing back to the goalkeeper
Game Objective 3 Ball Player GK To get the back players comfortable in playing back to the goalkeeper Note: As the ball is going back to the keeper the fullbacks are getting wide to make a diamond. The keepers next decision will be based on how the opponents react

37 To get full backs into the attack
Game Objective 4 To get full backs into the attack To have the remaining defenders provide cover when the fullbacks go forward

38 To get the central defender into attack
Game Objective 5 To get the central defender into attack To do this the midfielders have to make room and the fullbacks fill in the space

39 U11 Game Objective 6 Ball Player To switch the ball from one side to the other to create better attacking options To do this we need width, depth and team awareness from our central players To improve the effectiveness of this the player receiving the final pass needs to be the widest on the team stretching the opponent out creating gaps to play forward

40 To Switch fields and get a fullback to overlap
Game Objective 7 Ball Player To Switch fields and get a fullback to overlap The team first needs good team shape and the players be able to get the ball across the field. The Fullback has to time their run as the ball is coming across

41 To make a pass into a checking forward
Game Objective 8 Ball Player To make a pass into a checking forward The forward has to start in a high position and check back into the pocket between forward and midfield

42 To make a pass into a checking forward
Game Objective 9 To make a pass into a checking forward To fill the space that the forward has come out of. If finding forwards is done efficiently it will create space for a player running through The spare players have to fill in from the back

43 To get the fullbacks to successfully zonal Defend
Game Objective 10 RD To get the fullbacks to successfully zonal Defend To be Successful the other 2 defenders must come across to cover. The covering players must be in a position to cover, see the ball and the opponents at the same time Note: The Right defender is defending on the left side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support

44 Game Objective 11 Ball Player To get the Centre defender to zonal Defend To be Successful the fullbacks must come across to cover the space. The fullbacks must be in a position to cover both sides of the central defender and be ready if the ball is passed outside Note: The Centre defender is defending on the right side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support

45 To get the outside midfield players to zonal defend
Game Objective 12 To get the outside midfield players to zonal defend To be Successful the other 2 midfielder must come across to cover and compact the field. Note: The defender is defending on the Right side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support. The right defender gets in a position to cover and the 2 other midfielders shift across

46 To get the central midfield player to zonal defend
Game Objective 13 To get the central midfield player to zonal defend To be Successful the other 2 midfielder must pinch inside to compact the field and deny passing lanes to the forward.

47 To get the back players to react defensively off the midfield pressure
Game Objective 14 To get the back players to react defensively off the midfield pressure Note: The defender is defending on theright side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support. The right defender gets in a position to cover and the 2 other defenders shift across

48 Game Objective Corners
2 3 1 1/2/3 are all targets the others are positions that need taking up to get ready for the shot or a pass To create a goal scoring opportunity from Corners Movement is made after the number has been called Targets have the option of controlling the ball or allowing it to run through to secondary players. The players who don’t take the shot are prepared to follow up for rebounds

49 Game Objective Free kicks
4 2 3 Option 1 is the shot Option 2 is the ball to the running player Option 3 is to the player at the side Option 4 is the pass to the player standing in the wall who can either shoot or set up 3 or kicker All movement occurs when the player puts the ball down To create a better goal scoring opportunity from our Free kicks All other free kicks should be looked to be passed short and quickly

50 To create an open player from a throw in
Game Objective Ball Player To create an open player from a throw in 1. The receiving player is marked so he spins and runs into the space behind

51 Game Objective To get 2nd player movement from a throw in
Ball Player To get 2nd player movement from a throw in The receiving player is marked and spins and is followed by his defender The player that was far away checks into the space
