1 Barcelona BTEC Trip Wednesday 22nd March – Saturday 25th March

2 What is the purpose of this trip?
During our time in Barcelona students will have the opportunity to work on 4 units of their BTEC Business and/or 4 units of IT. The Business units: Unit 9: Creative Product Promotion Unit 18: Managing a Business Event Unit 25: Supporting a Business Activity* Unit 36: Starting a Small Business The IT units: Unit 17: Project Planning with IT Unit 28: Website Production Unit 33: Supporting Business Activity* Unit 42: Spreadsheet Modelling Spanish students will be able to practice their Oral Spanish as they act as translators for the BTEC students which will be excellent practice for their upcoming oral examinations.

3 What is the purpose of this trip?
Students will be creating a small business, a similar approach to the ‘Young Apprentice’, running and managing a Business event and evaluating their work over the four days. This is great ‘hands on’ experience of Business and will give them the skills needed at University and the workplace for both an IT and Business related career. Spanish students will be able to work with our Business students as translators and experience Spanish Culture.

4 Flight/Travel Details
Wednesday 22nd March Meet at Farringtons 06:00 The coach will leave at 06:30 Travel to Gatwick Depart from Gatwick at 10:30 Saturday 25th March Arrive at Gatwick Airport 19:20 Coach will bring us back to School Arrive at School 21:00 Students will call parents with exact times.

5 Luggage Details You can bring along 1 piece of cabin baggage. Easy Jet’s guidelines are:

6 Accommodation. We are staying at the Casa Gracia Hostel.

8 Itinerary for the Trip – Wednesday.
Meet at Farringtons 06:00 Travel to Gatwick by Coach Flight departs from Gatwick at 10:30 Arrive in Barcelona 13:30. Travel to Hostel - arrive around 3pm Logistics and Health and Safety issues of travelling to and from Barcelona. - Introduction to the BTEC Assignment. Evening Meal

9 Outline Provisional Itinerary for the Trip – Thursday and Friday
Group 1 on Thursday, Group 2 on Friday 09:00 – 10:30 Part 1 of BTEC Assignment (Planning the Event) 10:30 – 14:30 Part 2 of BTEC Assignment (Planning the Event) 15:00 – 18:00 Return to Hostel to organise final part of event and write up some Merits and Distinction. 19:00 Evening Event Spanish students will be attached to one of the two groups and will adopt the role of Translators to support Business and IT BTEC students during the Business activity.

10 Itinerary for the Trip – Thursday and Friday
While one group is working on their BTEC Assignments, the other will have a cultural excursion of Barcelona. This will include a tour, sightseeing and shopping led by Mrs Frances and Miss Azulay. In the evening, this group will act as the customers for the group holding the event.

11 Itinerary for the Trip - Saturday
09:00 – 12:00 Write up Merits and Distinctions (Business and IT Students) 09:00 – 12:00 Cultural Visits and Sight seeing with Mrs Frances (Spanish Students) 12:00 – 14:30 Travel into Barcelona. Shopping and sight seeing. 15:00 Depart for the Airport

12 Passports and Spending Money
Passports, EHIC Cards and pocket money (in Euros) are required by Friday 10th March All students will need to hand in their €130 spending money to Miss Ootim. This will be distributed to students over the four days in Barcelona. I would not advise bringing any additional cash. Day 1: €20 for Dinner Day 2 and 3: €30 for the activity fund and €20 for dinner (on activity day). €40 spending money for the day trip with Mrs Frances and Miss Azulay. Day 4: €20 for lunch Medication needs to be handed into Miss Ootim upon coach departure at Farringtons. During the trip should pupils have any medical problems they will be looked after by Miss Ootim, Mrs Frances, Miss Azulay or Mr Gardner.

13 Standards and Expectations
This is a school working trip, and therefore the following expectations will need to be met: No alcohol (even if you are 18!) No smoking You must work as a team. No team work = no grade

14 Standards and Expectations
Students are expected to abide by the same rules as they do in school and to uphold a good image and name of Farringtons. Please understand that if pupils do not abide by the school rules they will be sent home accompanied by a member of staff at their parents expense. Students are not permitted to buy lighters, matches, knives or bladed instruments, laser pens, fireworks, alcohol or tobacco. Any items will be immediately confiscated.

15 Weather & Dress Code The temperature in Barcelona is around 20°C in March. Students are expected to dress appropriately for a School Trip. They are able to wear their own clothes (I do not expect them to wear a suit!) Jeans, T-Shirts etc. are acceptable but no mini-skirts and crop tops.

16 Personal Safety and Security
Please be vigilant when walking around the city. Keep personal belongings close to you at all times and no not wander around on your own. Passports will be held securely and students will be given cash for each day. Any additional cash or credit/debit cards are the students own responsibility.

17 AOB European Adapter – Especially if you are bringing any electrical items. Laptop, Charger & USB – Needed to complete the Assignments. Pen and notebook. Mobile phones – Check with your network provider for charges.
