Check off the academy you wish to participate in and complete the application which you can get in the counseling office.

5 Graduation Requirements
You must earn a minimum of credits. 75 Student Service Learning Hours Pass the Maryland High School Assessments Algebra, Biology, English, NSL Middle School credits: need to pass the final in order to get high school credit. New graduation requirements: if you do not pass English and Math you will not move to the next grade level.

6 Maryland State Requirements for Graduation
4 credits of English 3 credits of Science (1 physical sci. and 1 biology) ACES Program 4 credits of Math (1 algebra and 1 geometry) 3 credits of Social Studies (USH, NSL, MWH) 1 credit of Fine Art 1 credit of Physical Education 1 credit of Technology .5 credit of Health Program Completion Requirement: 2 credits of Foreign Language 2 credits of Advanced Technology 4 credits of a Career Development Program 2.5 credits of Electives Any class that does not fulfill a specific requirement is considered an elective. Once you complete the required number of credits in an area (Science, for example), any additional science classes you take will be considered electives. There are electives in every area: English – Yearbook, Science – Forensics, Social Studies – Psychology Foundations of Technology: Students will develop a broad-based understanding of the characteristics and scope of technology and its influence on history. Designing Technology Solutions (Prerequisite: Algebra 1): Students will apply programming concepts to robotics development. Introduction to Engineering Design (Prerequisite: Algebra 1): Students will use 3-D modeling software to explore the design process.

In order to get into the program completer, students must complete 2 years (sometimes 3 years) of a program. It is important to earn all of your credits in 9th and 10th grade so there is room in your schedule later on for these career programs. You will be out of NWHS 3 or 4 periods a day.

14 What a Typical University of Maryland Freshman Looks Like
University of Maryland expects all applicants, at a MINIMUM, to have completed the following course work: 4 years of English 4 yrs. of Math, Alg. 1 & 2, Geometry 3 yrs. of Science in 2 areas, min. 2 labs 3 yrs. of History or Social Science 2 yrs. of Foreign Language Successful applicants typically exceed the minimum and include several honors and/or AP courses. Enrolling in math courses all 4 years of high school is strongly recommended and taking at least 3 years of a Foreign Language.
