3. What we will cover: How to turn on your phone
Different functions of the touch screen
Navigating your phone
How to access and quit apps
Adding contacts
Other brands of smartphones:

During this presentation we will learn:
-how to turn on your phone
-touch screen gestures and navigating your phone
-settings and how to change volume, ringtone style, text size, and GPS settings
-how to set a passcode for your phone
-how to access and quit apps
-making a phone call
-sending a text
-adding contacts

4. Components of A Smartphone
Here is a diagram of the iPhone
Touch screen *: this is the main face of the iPhone. The touch screen where you control all of the phone’s functions.
Home button *: by hitting this button once, you will return back to your home screen.
FaceTime Camera *: this is the front facing camera on the iPhone
Ring/silent switch: this switch is how you can turn on your ringtone or turn it off. When the switch is in the off position, you will see orange *and when the ringtone is on there will be no color. Think of it like the mute and unmute button on a TV remote. *
Volume buttons * *: This is how, like on the Samsung, you can increase the volume of your ringtone, videos you are watching, or the speaker on a phone call.
Headphone jack *
Front facing camera/flash *: this is the most advanced camera on the phone. This is the camera you will use for the majority of your photos. The flash can be turned on and off through the camera app.

5. Power, lock, and volume iPhone 6 The real buttons:
-There are small, rectangular, REAL buttons on the side * and tops * of your phone. Most iPhones have this button on the top unless it’s the iPhone 6 or the Galaxy where the buttons are on the side. To turn on your phone, press and hold this button for 1 second. To turn off you phone completely, do the same thing then follow the prompts on the screen. These buttons can also “lock” your phone. By clicking them once, your phone will lock making the screen go black. You’ll notice if you touch your screen either nothing will happen or a lock/unlock image will appear. To unlock your phone again touch where it says unlock (at the bottom of the screen) and slide from left to right, keeping your finger on the screen
-volume buttons are here * and they adjust the volume, think like your TV remote (+ and – signs)
-the volume on and mute flip switch * is right above the volume up and down buttons form the previous page
-home button *: always brings you back to the home scree; we will look at this more on the next slide

6. Touchscreen gestures Tap Pinch/Spread Swipe
The touch screen is very receptive to your touch. Because of this, there are a variety of “gestures” that can accomplish different things. Here are some key gestures…
-Tap: A tap is the most important gesture on your touch screen. A tap is the exact same as clicking a mouse on your computer, it selects whatever you touch. A tap is a gentle and fairly quick touch on the screen. Like striking a piano key just a quick tap of your finger on the screen. This is best visualized by a clip from the movie finding nemo… *
-Swipe: This is when you touch then drag your finger across the screen. * Swiping to the right is how you unlock your phone. Swiping up and down is how you scroll, like if you were on the internet. This image is swiping right.
-Double tap: two quick taps in the same place on the screen. This will zoom your screen in.
-Pinch/spread: placing two fingers on the screen and pushing them away from each other is called the spread * seen here; this will help you zoom in. And putting two fingers on the screen and pulling them toward each other is called pinch * this will help you zoom out.
If you learn these 4 gestures you will be able to do just about anything on your phone!

7. Quitting apps Double tap the home button Swipe up to quit app
Press home button again to return to home page
All apps will still be on your phone, but will not be running in the background
Lets go back to the home screen (hit the home button once). Now that we are at the home screen, click the home button quickly twice. This shows you all of the apps you have open. It is important to periodically quite apps. This does not remove the apps from your phone or delete any data, it just turns the app “off” while you’re not using it which helps you save battery.
To quit an app, after hitting the home button twice and seeing all your pages up, swipe up to remove the app from the screen, quitting it.

8. Adding contacts Go to the Contacts app:
Touch the + in the upper right hand corner
Fill out the fields
Touch the Done
That’s it!
Go to the contacts app
Touch the plus sign to create a new contact
Fill out the field by touching the field and typing the information
When you have filled out all the information you want to include (most important being name and phone number) touch the DONE button and that’s it!
