How to make a data table Learning Target Goal:
I know that a record of data collected during an experiment must be collected in a data table.
2
Data tables Data tables are used as an organized place to collect data during an experiment. Data = the measurements of the dependent variable.
3
Step 1 Determine the amount of rows and columns you need.
The amount of rows = # of test groups + 1 extra for labeling. The amount of columns = # of times data is being taken + average or total + 1 extra for labeling Include an extra row with 2 columns on top of the data table. Draw the data table
4
Step 2 Label the column on the far left as the Independent Variable. In the rows underneath list each of your test groups.
5
Step 3 Label the columns to the right as the dependent variable. Include your unit of measure. Label the columns beneath with the times your taking down your data. (Example: Trials, Weeks, Days, Specific Times etc) Label the last column as the average or total.
6
Step 4 Give your table a title: The Effect of (IV) on (DV)

Data Table Example Larry Plays baseball and he wants to know if he can hit farther using a wood bat than he can with his metal bat. Larry uses a pitching machine set at a specific speed to pitch to him for the entire experiment. He hits 3 balls with his metal bat and measures the distance they landed from home plate. Ball 1 went 25ft, Ball 2 went 28ft, and Ball 3 went 31ft. Larry then hits 3 balls with the wood bat and measures the distance they landed from home plate. Ball 1 went 27ft, Ball 2 went 35ft and Ball 3 went 37ft. Larry calculated the average for each bat, the metal bat was 28ft and the wood bat was 33ft.
