2 What is the OSSLT? EQAO? OSSLT – Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test EQAO – Education Quality and Accountability Office You have written EQAO assessments in grades 3, 6, 9 (math) and now grade 10 (OSSLT) The OSSLT is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!

3 YOU CAN TRY AGAIN IF YOU NEED TO!
WHY GRADE 10? By having the test in Grade 10 it allows time for remediation before graduation. A pass is 300/400 or 75% (Level 3) YOU CAN TRY AGAIN IF YOU NEED TO! Lots of practice Preparing since you started school Diagnostic Test Literacy Activities Mock Test and Feedback Sessions

5 TEST DAY: In your seat - 8:25 am Booklet #1 – 8:30-9:45 am Break – 9:45-10:00 am In your seat – 10:00am Booklet #2 – 10:10-11:25 am Questionnaire – 11:25-11:35 am LUNCH – 11:35 – 12:36 pm Per. 4 – 12:37 – 1:32 pm Per. 5 – 1:36 – 2:41 pm

Test Booklet #1: Session 1 (75 minutes) Answer Booklet #1 Test Booklet #2: Session 2 (75 minutes) Answer Booklet #2

8 WHAT TO BRING/NOT TO BRING:
Do not bring…. Coloured pens Liquid paper Electronic devices Cell phones Dictionaries Backpacks Bring…… Pencil/Eraser Blue/black pen Highlighter Your watch A novel to read if you finish early

9 TEST ROOM PROTOCOL: Sit where assigned. Packages are labeled.
Do not touch your OSSLT until instructed to do so. Listen carefully to scripted instructions read by the room supervisor (teachers CANNOT answer questions) Adhere to MSS Code of Conduct

10 MORE ADVICE… Check that your barcode matches the 12 digit number on your test. Write/print clearly - evaluators can’t mark your test if they can’t read it. Follow Instructions!

12 MULTIPLE CHOICE SECTIONS:
More than one answer may seem correct READ and REREAD QUESTIONS CAREFULLY!!! Read the four answers and rule out any that are incorrect. CHOOSE THE BEST OR MOST CORRECT ANSWER.

13 ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS:
Answer all multiple choice questions in the Answer Booklet To change your answer, erase carefully Make sure your final answer is darker than the one you have erased!

WRITTEN QUESTIONS: Answer all written response questions in the answer booklets on the lines provided The number of lines indicates how long your answer should be! USE ALL THE SPACE PROVIDED!

Work completed in the space for rough notes will not be scored

17 WRITTEN QUESTIONS: News Report Who, what, why, where, when
1 headline and two questions. Multiple paragraphs Relate your article and title to photograph provided

18 WRITTEN QUESTIONS: Dialogue Reading Read carefully – reread if needed
Answer the questions and be specific with your responses. Provide examples from the reading in support your response

19 If you write with inappropriate language, your work may not be scored and the principal will be notified NO TEXTING SHORT FORMS … (TTYL!)

20 YOU CANNOT LEAVE BEFORE THE TEST IS OVER!
If you finish early, use the extra time to review your answers
