3 So.. What exactly is Sociology?
The scientific study of social structure (human social behavior) What’s unique about it? It has it’s own perspective! It never focuses on the individual, but always at the social, or group, level.

5 Societal vs. Individual Responsibilities

6 Patterns Sociologists find and focus on patterned behaviors.
Ex: Teacher and student Social structure is what captures the attention of sociologists. They study the patterned interaction of people in social relationships

7 Group vs. Individual Behavior
Emile Durkheim: helped develop the sociological perspective mixing of parts, to create a new whole (bronze ex.) something new is created when individuals come together

9 Acceptance? Out of fear? To be loved? Peer pressure?

This perspective allows us to develop a sociological imagination: the ability of individuals to see the relationship between events in their personal lives and events in their society SO.. It connects personal problems with public issues
