4 Steering Committee & Caucus Recommendations
Prepared a simple short description of AfriGEOSS for engaging policy and decision makers (Secretariat with Gabon and Madagascar); South Africa to leading engagement on AU-EU High Level Policy Dialogue on food security; Articulating the unique value of AfriGEOSS in the identified priority areas (SC Co-Chairs); Developing framework for consideration by the Caucus Members on the funding model; SC members to engage their principals.

Investigating the requirements of the African Renaissance Fund to support AfriGEOSS activities (South Africa) Prepare AUC-AfriGEOSS partnership framework document - value proposition for unlocking resources (AUC-AfriGEOSS Partnership Task Force) and n) Adopted text changes in the AfriGEOSS Management Arrangement DICT to develop a “coordinated data acquisition strategy for Africa” Partnership with SKA on Africa Data Intensive Research Cloud (ADIRC) SANSA leading the development of the prototype in South Africa; Discussion on partnership between African countries & CEOS SEO to start building capacity on building and using data cubes; Training on computing skills; Establishing national coordination and undertake regional representation of AfriGEOSS

Establish coordination teams for the thematic priority areas; All now have Co-leads and two with just leads – process of building the full team (close). Member countries with expertise in use of EO to develop pilots in various application areas to showcase value of EO (SA, Egypt, Kenya, Gabon, etc.); SC Members to identify and and/ delegate their institutions/ countries communication’s officers to the Communication & Outreach Coordination Team (COCT); The COCT to develop a Communication & Outreach Plan, SC to ensure its is well resourced for implementation;

Establishing National GEO Coordination Mechanisms Strengthen the AfriGEOSS Governance Structure Define functional and temporal links and coordination mechanisms with the GEO Governance (Ministerial, Plenary, Executive Committee and Programme Board) as well as with GEO process, main events (including the Work Programme Symposium) and Planning Documents (GEO Work Programme) Increase the membership of the AfriGEOSS Steering Committee (2 members per the region) Members of the Steering Committee to undertake regional coordination, promotion and participation in AfriGEOSS

Bring AfriGEOSS into political discussions to inform and influence policy formulation Promote and Ensure the use of EO Data and Information in decision-making Confirm the mandate of the Data & Infrastructure Coordination Team and consolidate its working plans (Develop the framework for a ‘Coordinated Data Acquisition Strategy”) Establishment of thematic coordination mechanisms within AfriGEOSS AfriGEOSS Agriculture Monitoring (AfriGAM) AfriGEOSS Sustainable Forest Management Continue engagements with the private sector and industry (AARSC) Contribution to the GEO Work Programme

10 Steering Committee and Caucus Recommendations
Membership to include Alternate regional members The Steering Committee to invite two Participating Organizations on the based on the following: Active in AfriGEOSS and support implementation of activities; Demonstrated leadership in AfriGEOSS activities; In a position to mobilize resources for the implementation of AfriGEOSS activities; In a position to connect AfriGEOSS with national governments; In a position to support the AfriGEOSS position in regional and continental political platforms such as Regional Economic ECS and Ministerial meetings; Engagement and understating of GEO activities Invitation to be extended to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Regional Centre For Mapping Resource For Development (RCMRD).
