2 Motorways The M8 was built right through the heart of the city and allows access directly to the CBD. This links from Port Glasgow to Edinburgh. The M77 was completed in 1995 at a cost of £135 million. This connects the M8 to the outskirts of Newton Mearns The extension of the M74 is currently being built which will connect to the M8 at the Kingston Bridge

One-way system in place Park and Ride facilities at train stations and underground stations e.g Jordanhill and Kelvinbridge Underground connecting inner city (Govan to city to west end) Multi-storey car park facilities in CBD e.g St Enoch Centre and Buchanan Galleries Parking restrictions and regular patrolling by traffic wardens Pedestrianisation of streets e.g. Buchanan Street which improves the shopping environment Bus lanes

7 The Millenium Plan has been implemented which has seen improvements to public transport – more bus stops and bus lanes, restricted vehicular access along Argyle Street and the increase in cycle lanes throughout the city Bike to work schemes to encourage commuters to cycle
