1 Others will follow in line. As we board the greenhouse train
If just person shines, Others will follow in line. As we board the greenhouse train We’ll say good-buy to “acid rain” As we fight global warming, We’ll stand united as one All around the world A new day has begun. P.J. GRAND

2 WHAT IS ENERGY ANYWAY? ENERGY IS THE ABILITY TO DO WORK OR TO MOVE OBJECTS. WITHOUT ENERGY OUR BODY WOULD’T GROW, OUR CARS WOULD’T MOVE. THE LIGHTS IN OUR HOUSE WOULD’T WORK. AND THAT’S JUST TO NAME A FEW. WE NEED ENERGY FOR EVERYTHING WE DO IN LIFE AND WE NEED A LOT OF IT!!!

17 WHY IS ENERGY CONSERVATION IMPORTANT?
Why is it important to conserve our current supply? How is carbon dioxide produced? How does carbon dioxide act in the atmosphere? What do the possible impacts include? When is sulfur dioxide emitted? With what does the sulfur dioxide react? How does the “acid rain” impact the environment?

18 SYNQUANE 1. A noun that tells what your poem is about.
2. Two adjectives that describe what you're writing about. 3. Three verbs that describe actions within this theme. 4. A phrase of four words showing attitude to the subject. 5. A synonym for your title.

19 COMPLETE THESE SENTENCES
If they use other forms of energy, If industrialized countries use most of the world’s energy, If rich countries continue to spend their money on fuel, If people weren’t careless, If we destroy rainforests, If we destroyed rainforests, lots of animals would perish. they will save a lot. the planet will be at risk. lots of animals will perish. they wouldn’t pollute the Earth. the air will be more and more polluted.

21 TRUE OR FALSE SENTENCE T OR F
1. Sue says householders can do little to reduce their energy bills. 2. Sue says that a lot of energy is lost through the floors of homes. 3. According to Sue the key to saving money is better insulation in homes. 4. Householders can produce power too. 5. Houses in the UK can produce electricity using photovoltaic cells. 6. 22 LET’S TRANSLATE THE TRUE SENTENCES
According to Sue the key to saving money is better insulation in homes.

23 LET’S TRANSLATE THE TRUE SENTENCES
Houses in the UK can produce electricity using photovoltaic cells. The UK government helps householders to buy solar panels.

24 REMEMBER!!! THE LESS ENERGY WE USE,
THE LESS IMPACT WE HAVE ON OUR ENVIRONMENT. AND THAT MEANS OUR PLANET STAYS CLEAN AND HEALTHY. ENERGY COSTS MONEY. SO THE LESS ENERGY WE USE, THE MORE WE SAVE!!!

25 RULES FOR SAVING ENERGY
DO buy energy efficient products, like the ones with the ENERGY STAR label. DO replace a burnt-out light bulb with a new compact fluorescent bulb. Fluorescent bulbs use 75 percent less energy, and they last 10 times longer .

26 RULES FOR SAVING ENERGY
DO shut off the lights when you’re done using them, and turn off the TV, computer, video games and other electrical stuff when you leave the room. DON’T leave the refrigerator door open. Every time you open the door, up to one-third of the cold air can escape.

27 RULES FOR SAVING ENERGY
DO use cold water in the washing machine. Hot water won’t get the clothes any cleaner, and it wastes a lot of energy. DO turn off dripping faucets. One drop per second can add up to 165 gallons of hot water a month - that's more than one person uses in two weeks!

28 RULES FOR SAVING ENERGY
DON’T take a long bath – take a short shower instead. It might take 25 gallons of hot water to fill the bathtub, compared to only seven gallons for a quick shower. DO close the curtains during hot summer days to block the sun. During the winter, keep the curtains open.

29 RULES FOR SAVING ENERGY
DO install double glazing – this is expensive initially but again you’ll save in the long term. DO plant trees to help shade your house on hot summer days.

30 I CAN HELP SAVING ENERGY BY
“SNOWBALL” I CAN HELP SAVING ENERGY BY planting trees; taking a short shower; using fluorescent bulbs; installing double glazing; turning off dripping faucets; using energy efficient products; using cold water in the washing machine; closing the curtains during hot summer days; turning off household appliances when I leave the room.

32 HOMEWORK 1. How is energy used in your home?
2. Are you using the conservation ideas discussed during class? 3. What alternatives and energy conservation actions can you practice at home to save money? 4. Using these questions, you should conduct a “home energy audit” with your families and write the results in your exercise books.
