1. Creating the Rough Draft of Your Vignette
As you write your vignette, try to include the following poetic elements:
3 similes
3 examples of personification
1 metaphor
Five instances of imagery

2. Revising Your Vignette
1.  Highlight 3 similes.  If you have less than 3 similes, rewrite a few sentences until you do (keywords:  like or as).
2.  Highlight 3 examples of personification.  If you have less than 3 examples, rewrite a few sentences until you do (focus on using "human" descriptors--Cisneros uses the ideas of laziness and obedience to describe hair)
3.  Highlight 1 metaphor.  If you do not have a metaphor, rewrite a sentence until you have a good example.
4.  Highlight 5 examples of imagery.  These sentences should deal with sight (colors, descriptors, etc.), sound (noises, dialogue, etc.), smell (not just food!), taste (not just food!), touch (how does Esperanza's family's hair feel?)
