The verb is the main part of the predicate (everything in the sentence BESIDES the subject.) It tells what the subject is or is doing. Types: Action verbs Linking verbs

These verbs show state of being.
FOLD #2: Linking verbs These verbs show state of being. The main function of these verbs is to LINK the subject with a word in the predicate that describes or identifies it. Most often, variations of “to be” (is, are, was, were) are linking verbs.

Fold #2: Linking verbs Verbs can be used as action verbs or linking verbs. You need to decide if it is showing an action completed by the subject, or connecting the subject to something describing it. Which one is the linking verb? Samuel looked sad. Samuel looked at me.

Fold #3: Compound verbs Two or more verbs of the same subject, connected by a conjunction (and, or but) Help eliminate repetition (be more concise!)
