SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) CPSB Lab Manager Meeting SuccessMaker Enterprise Welcome to an initial training for SuccessMaker 3.0. Consultant: Before using this ppt in a training, link the slides in the ppt which show Camtasia Video Clips to the clips. You will need to go to the server and download them. Then link each to show the clips through your ppt. Once linked, you won’t have to do it again. If you are going to show the clips over GoToMeeting or GoToWebinar or find that you can hear the clips but not see them, you will need to install a codec driver file in order for your participants to view the files (otherwise, they’ll just hear them). It’s a quick fix. Go to the intranet in the Instructional Services/Training Materials by Product/SuccessMaker/Training Powerpoints section and download the “Driver for Viewing Clips” zip file. In it you will find the driver and the directions for the quick installation. It’s VERY quick. Create demo student users and demo teacher users for your participants and give them all the same password. Assign courses to your student users. You will need the following courses (minimum—you can create more): Reading Course with IP on Reading Course with IP off Math Course with IP on or off (or a course with each). Since math looks the same whether IP is on or off, you can choose to have it on or off. Custom Course with Fluency isolated (or you can show a video clip)

16 Last Session Report

17 Cumulative Performance Report
SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Cumulative Performance Report This report presents information about the progress of groups of students, as well as individual students within the group. It includes: the current course level for the student; performance in all of the exercises; the percentage of items covered and mastered; and the total time for individual students as well as the average time for the group. In reading this report, it would be helpful to review the following: Review the performance for each student Look for those students who do not have the desired time on task or number of sessions based on the implementation plan. Review the Total Percentage of Active Items Covered and the Total Percentage of Completed Items Mastered to identify those students with low mastery percentages. Determine whether a student is working and progressing at the desired rate by observing the Total Number attempted and correctly answered exercises, together with the student’s Total Percentage correct (or AP) and Total Time Spent data. Compare student performance data from the report with your own personal performance criteria. Review the summary area Determine if the group is getting the desired amount of time and sessions per the implementation plan. Establish if the group is working and progressing at the desired rate. Look to see if the group is performing at an acceptable range. Look at the Standard Deviation fields to see how much students within the group differ from one another. 17

18 SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT (10-09-09)
Course Report (Page 1) SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Page 446 It is extremely important to monitor students’ progress. Keep in mind that the student profile develops over time. Take care not to jump to conclusions as data collects during IPM. Look at the summary section. Point out cumulative vs. last session lines. Have participants circle % of skills mastered. This is an important field indicator for MCS. A % score of 90% or higher is acceptable performance. The CRI (Computer Retention Index) tracks performance in computation review exercises over completed material. (Speed games are not included.) The review process does not start until the student has completed 10 computation skills (not exercises) after IPM has finished. Exercises for CRI address both mastered and non-mastered skills. Point out Cumulative Performance by Strand. Point out Areas of Difficulty. Also note computation strands. Explain that computation skills only have one delayed presentation. Computation delayed presentation is not really delayed. Skills are presented again immediately. 18

Course Report (Page 2) SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Applications skills can go to delayed presentation twice. Skills in delayed presentation 2 need immediate intervention. The student has had many exercises already and has not mastered the skill. Students may receive a maximum of 15 exercises in each delayed presentation. 20

22 SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT (10-09-09)
Course Report (Page 3) SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Skills are listed in Skills Not Mastered if they are not mastered in Delayed Presentation. Only the 6 most recent skills are listed. This report must be monitored regularly in order to stay abreast of all skills. When skills not mastered move to the Completed Skill area on the illustration, they are reported in the Skills Not Mastered section. Students typically achieve mastery of a skill within 20 exercises. In computation strands, students may have had as many as 40 exercises per skill before it becomes not-mastered. In applications strands, the student might have had as many as 50 exercises per skill. Teacher intervention and involvement is important to student success. Sometimes a student needs alternative instruction in a skill in order to learn it. It is extremely important that a teacher provide intervention when a skill is in delayed presentation rather than waiting until it becomes a skill not mastered. 22

23 Grouping by Areas of Difficulty Report
SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Grouping by Areas of Difficulty Report Page 457 This report lists the skills with which the selected group of students is having difficulty. This report groups students by skills, providing teachers with data on which students need additional intervention and/or assistance on specific skills. NOTE: This is an excellent report for identifying patterns of difficulty amongst the student groups and can help teachers pinpoint specific areas in need of intervention. The strand name, the skill ID, the skill description, student name, and current level are provided. Information that assists teachers in focusing on problem areas that are addressed on the upcoming tests is also included. 23

25 Prescriptive Scheduling Report
SuccessMaker 2.0 Initial Training PPT ( ) Prescriptive Scheduling Report Page 465 and 466 This report displays a forecast of the additional time needed for the student to reach a specified target course level, or a forecast of the level the student will reach in the time specified (for MCS and RW only). This report can be used to plan an optimal schedule for reaching specific levels and for monitoring progress, as well as for making adjustment to the schedules to reach the targets. Note: Reader’s Workshop reports are available in the Reports Documentation located in the Help section of Results Manager. In reading this report, the following sections will provide the teacher with useful information on individual students meeting either a target course level or a specific amount of time target within Math Concepts and Skills or Reader’s Workshop: In the Current section of the report, review the Course Level, Total Time, Gain Since IPM, and the Learning Rate to determine how the student is progressing within MCS or RW. Look for an exclamation point (!) in the Rate Decrease Alert column to establish if the student’s learning rate has significantly decreased. If it appears, monitor the student’s performance to determine the cause of the decline. A significant decrease (one that triggers this alert) could indicate that the student is encountering material that is difficult enough to slow the student’s progress in the course (check their course report for specific areas of difficulty and non-mastered objectives) or alert the teacher that the student is distracted or not paying attention. Regardless, intervention strategies are necessary. Review Acceptable Performance Review the Forecast section of the report to establish how much gain and/or time the student requires to reach the target course level established by the teacher. Adjust the student’s schedule as necessary. 25
