3 The summary of the book This is a book about the girl named Eilis Lacey who lives in a small town in Ireland with her mother and older sister Rose. She leads a pretty boring life, hanging at home and going to school to become a bookkeeper. But everything changes in her life when Eilis meets Father Flood, a priest who wants to help Eilis immigrate to America to find work for her better future. Eilis is hesitant in nature, it does not seem easy for her to move to another country, but she has no choice. While arriving in America, Eilis moves into a boarding house run by an Irishwoman and gets job at Department Store. Eilis feels homesick, but luckily she meets a guy named Tony who saves her from monotonous life and they start developing romantic feelings for each other and it ends in Tony making a proposal to which Eilis agrees. But she has to return to her homeland due to very tragic news, her sister – Rose dies in her sleep. That is a tragedy that puts Eilis and mother in a sorrow, Eilis has not revealed her marriage yet and makes things more complicated, meeting a guy she knew before named Jim Farrell who has romantic intentions for her and asks her to get engaged so she doesn't return to Brooklyn, at the same time Eilis’ mother supports the idea of that. However Miss Kelly - her former boss in Ireland - reveals that she knows Mrs. Kehoe, and that Mrs. Kehoe told her about Eilis' marriage back in Brooklyn. Knowing that this would cause a big scandal, Eilis comes clean to her mom, writes an apology letter to Jim, and hops on a train that will take her to a Brooklyn-bound boat.
