Now that Windows is delivered as a service and they automatically get new upgrades, a common question is “why should I renew my Software Assurance?” Let’s take a look at a side-by-side comparison of what’s included in the 3 different commercial versions of Windows 10 Enterprise. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 provides access to advanced enterprise security and management features, however, it only offers the Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) servicing option. This edition does not provide the flexibility of the Enterprise Edition Current Branch or Current Branch for Business servicing options. It also does not provide access to the enhanced controls, use rights, support and training included with Software Assurance. Windows 10 Enterprise E3 includes all of the advanced security and management features found in enterprise edition, as well as Software Assurance, which provides customers with: Comprehensive management capabilities and controls MDOP is a set of products to help with virtualization, management and restore capabilities. MDOP is now only included as an SA benefit, and is no longer a separate add-on. Virtualize: Microsoft App-V: Microsoft App-V makes it easier for IT departments to deploy across a fleet of devices by allowing “anywhere access” to virtualized applications on any authorized PC with management improvements, streamlined deployment of virtualized Office, and performance updates. Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) provides an enterprise-scalable user state virtualization solution that delivers a personal Windows experience, is easy for customers to deploy, and integrates into their existing infrastructure. Manage: MBAM: Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) provides enterprise management capabilities for BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. MBAM simplifies deployment and key recovery, provides centralized compliance monitoring and reporting, and minimizes the costs associated with provisioning and supporting encrypted drives. Restore: Microsoft DaRT: DaRT 10 provides diagnostics tools, remove control capabilities, repair tools, and other useful utilities for diagnosing and repairing Windows systems. Flexibility and foundational benefits SA benefits also provide greater flexibility for how customers can use Windows. The E3 and E5 plans provide exclusive access to the Enterprise Edition Current Branch/Current Branch for Business. Enhanced training and support Finally, SA benefits include the core Readiness and Support Resources allow you to better plan, deploy, and manage Windows through things like, 24x7 Support, Extended Hotfix Support, and end user and IT training through E-Learning and Training Vouchers. Windows 10 Enterprise E5 includes everything found in E3, with the addition of Windows Defender ATP, which, as we’ve already discussed, provides an additional layer of post-breach protection to the Windows 10 security stack, allowing organizations to detect, investigate, and respond to advanced attacks on their network. 1. Representative list, for a full placemat of features across editions please visit the Windows.com website 2. If a customer drops SA, they still retain rights to the current LTSB, but lose rights to future LTSBs

Per-user licensing scenarios
Per Device Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Benefits: Aligned with SPE E3/E5 Simplified license management Access to Windows across all a user’s devices Windows 10 Enterprise E3 First, we’ll take a look at the PER-USER licensing motions. Windows SA per user and the Enterprise Cloud Suite (recently renamed Secure Productive Enterprise) launched in December 2014, and while adoption of our hero per-user offers has been strong, as of July 2016, roughly 70% of Windows Enterprise is still licensed on a per-device basis. This provides a huge opportunity to continue to shift Windows licensing to a simpler fully per-user subscription model that aligns with our upcoming Secure Productive Enterprise E3 and E5 hero offers. Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per User add-on to E3 per Device
Starting Point: Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per Device Midterm/Anniversary Motion Per Device Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per User add-on to E3 per Device Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per Device* Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per user add-on In preparation for going through these scenarios slides, let’s first get oriented on the format: The SLIDE TITLE calls out the starting point The un-highlighted, small text in one quadrant also represents the “From” licensing position The Subtitle in Blue text represents the timing of the sales proposal in relation to the customer’s agreement/enrollment lifecycle, and The BOLD text in the Highlighted Quadrant/s represent the “To” licensing position, or end-state. So, for this first example, we are starting with a customer licensed with Windows Enterprise per device, now called Windows Enterprise E3, and in this case you’re looking to facilitate a customer move to a per user subscription offer before then end of their enrollment term. Depending on whether you intend to position E3 or E5 per user, the SKUs referenced in the PER USER quadrants reflect the licenses that would be positioned on a midterm or anniversary proposal. So, in this case: A customer licensed with the E3 per user add-on would gain the per user rights to access Windows Enterprise on all secondary devices for the licensed user, and A customer licensed with the E5 per user add-on to E3 per device would gain the same rights, and additionally the WDATP service on a per user basis for all licensed users. In this case however, it’s for an EA renewal proposal. Renewal is a good opportunity to simplify a customer’s SKU lineup by moving from per-device with an add-on to the per-user ULSs. For customers looking to move to per-user licensing, be sure to discuss the Secure Productive Enterprise offer, which provides a 5% platform discount. *or classic Pro/Ent desktop

Windows 10 Enterprise E5 licensing scenarios
Per Device Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Benefits: Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Windows 10 Enterprise E3 Now that we’ve covered the primary per-user licensing motions, let’s pivot to cover the E5-specific licensing motions. Sales conversations for Windows 10 Enterprise E5 will be geared towards both Windows Defender ATP and the advanced security capabilities provided with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, as well as the entire Secure Productive Enterprise E5 offer, for all the advanced capabilities including also that of EMS E5 and Office 365 E5.
34
Starting Point: Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per Device Creators Update Motion
Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per Device add-on to E3 per Device Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per User add-on to E3 per Device In this first scenario, we’ll start with the most common licensing scenario: customers starting with Windows Enterprise E3 per device. For a midterm or anniversary based deal, you would lead with and leverage the E5 per user add-on IF a customer was also sold the value of per-user Windows simultaneous to being sold the value of the Windows Defender ATP advanced security offer. As the Secure Productive Enterprise E5 offers roll out, this should be a very attractive option to help pull through Windows per user as part of a Secure Productive Enterprise E5 upsell motion. If however, it’s not the right timing, or a customer has decided that Windows per-device licensing is the right fit for them, the E5 per device add-on is the available complementary license to add the Windows Defender ATP service on a per-device basis. Starting Point: Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per Device Renewal Motion
Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per Device** Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per User From SA Full USL This next scenario is the same as the previous, but at the point of renewal or for a net new enrollment. We covered the hero E5 per user From SA transitions and Full USL offers previously. The E5 per-device subscription in the upper left quadrant is a per-device subscription-only license, so the best way to think of this is like an EAS Windows Enterprise subscription only offer, but with Windows Defender ATP included. As the asterisks notate, one important consideration in this case is as follows: Since this offer was priced comparable to EAS where the rental price of the U (or L) is factored into the annual subscription cost, for a net new EA or for new device true ups, the single per device subscription SKU referenced is will be priced higher than the E3 per device SA only + E5 per device add-on. So, for an EA Renewal for existing devices with SA, it will be more cost effective for the customer for you to position the E3 per device with E5 per device add-on on an ongoing basis. Windows 10 Enterprise E3 Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per Device* *or classic Pro/Ent desktop **Represents primary E5 per device licensing offer for net new EA & true up licenses. For EA renewals, Enterprise E3 per Dev and the E5 per Dev add-on is more cost effective.

Starting Point: Windows 10 Enterprise E3 per User (USL) Creators Update Motion Per Device Per User Windows 10 Enterprise E5 Windows 10 Enterprise E5 per User step-up from E3 per User Windows 10 Enterprise E3 For the final four scenarios we’re shifting our attention to the Windows Enterprise customers who have already moved to a per-user licensing model, via Full USLs or Add-ons, ECS or component. In this first example, we illustrate the step-up SKU, which is the mid-term motion for moving a customer up the stack from Windows Enterprise E3 (formerly known as Windows SA per user) to Windows Enterprise E5. Alternatively, at anniversary you can ‘rip and replace’ the E3 per user add-on with the E5 per user add-on. *Note: this is a different approach than Office 365 today, which has a step-up SKU specifically for Add-ons- there is no separate step-up SKU for moving from Windows E3 to E5 from U&SA + Add-on vs. E3 USL. Licensing the primary device
Windows 10 Enterprise E3/E5 Windows VDA E3/E5 Qualified OS required* Yes No Local install rights Yes No** * See Product Terms for list of qualifying operating systems ** VDA local install right exceptions Up until now we have spent a lot of time talking about licensing the primary device with Windows Enterprise E3 and E5. However there is another way to license the primary device using the Windows VDA license. In most organizations we usually see two types of devices used, PC’s and thin clients. PC’s are typically licensed with Windows 10 Enterprise E3 and E5, as we have talked about. They have a qualified OS on them and need local install rights. Thin clients, on the other hand, have no qualified OS and don’t need local install rights as they are typically used to connect to a VDI infrastructure. For these devices we offer the Windows VDA E3 and E5 licenses.

9/11/2018 Licensing per user Windows 10 Enterprise and VDA per user put users at the center of their devices Windows 10 Enterprise across devices Flexibility on how Windows is delivered Windows Enterprise per user puts users at the center of their devices and offers them a premium Windows experience across their devices. There are a few aspects of Windows 10 Enterprise per user that are worth highlighting: All of the user’s devices are covered - including those running iOS and Android operation systems Only the user’s primary PC needs to be running a qualified OS (i.e. Windows Pro) Windows Enterprise Edition can be delivered across the user’s devices You have flexibility to deliver Windows Enterprise across devices through local install, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), or Windows To Go. For devices without a qualified OS, VDI is available This provides simpler license management by allowing you to count just users with primary PCs, instead of every single device and enable new scenarios Simpler license management via per-user licensing © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. Overview of deployment options
MS Story 9/11/ :44 AM Overview of deployment options Unmatched flexibility and control, depending on needs Windows Insider Preview Branch Current Branch Current Branch for Business Long Term Servicing Branch Specific feature and performance feedback Application compatibility validation Deploy to appropriate audiences Test and prepare for broad deployment Information workers General population Specialized systems Deploy for mission critical systems No need for frequent new features (or any sort of change) Too expensive for general population Early adopters, initial pilots, IT devices Benefits from new features Begins broad deployment Test machines, small pilots Microsoft designed Windows 10 to provide businesses with multiple servicing options, centered on enabling different rates of feature upgrade adoption. The process starts with Windows Insiders, a community comprised of millions of users around the world. When Windows Insiders opt in to the community, they test many builds over the course of a product cycle, and provide feedback to Microsoft. Once we’ve completed the new features and are satisfied with the overall quality of the release, we’ll then release it more broadly. We recommend that all organizations have a small number of test PCs participating in the Windows Insider program, for a couple of reasons: Certainly we want customers to try out new features and provide feedback on those. But we also want to make sure that their apps continue to work – out goal is to have as close to perfect compatibility as possible. Once we have completed the development process, we’ll release the new feature update. At this point, we consider this to be a “Current Branch” (CB) release of Windows 10 – great for validation through initial pilot deployments to perhaps 10% of the devices in the organization. [ Ideally those 10% of PCs would cover a wide variety of workers, so that 80-90% of apps are validated just by those people doing their normal jobs. ] After a period of about four months, this “Current Branch” release will be declared as a “Current Branch for Business” (CBB) release. This signifies that this Windows 10 feature update is ready for broad deployment throughout the organization. This declaration is made based on the feedback from OEMs, ISVs, and organizations. We would expect about 80% of the PCs within an organization once CBB has been declared. That leaves one other category of devices: Specialized systems that must remain unchanged for long periods of time. These are often used for things like ATM machines, operating factory floor equipment, controlling medical equipment, and other special uses. The number of PCs that falls into this category varies by industry and organization, but on average we would expect 10-20% of PCs could fall into this category. We release a “Long Term Servicing Branch” (LTSB) release of Windows 10 specifically to support these devices. This LTSB release is supported for 10 years with no new features. [ As a general guideline, if the PC requires Office, it’s probably not a special-purpose device. These types of devices should use CBB. ] Current Branch for Business is supported in Pro, Enterprise and Education Editions. Long Term Servicing Branch is available only for Enterprise Edition.
