13 Auschwitz When prisoners arrived at Auschwitz, they were greeted with the phrase “Work makes you free.”

38 Experimentation To help the war effort or just for curiosity, prisoners were often used for experimentation. This prisoner has been exposed to air pressures comparable to 15,000 meters in altitude – to determine how high German pilots could fly and survive.
