3 The Running of the Bulls
As General Irvin McDowell Led 35,000 Troops to Manassas in Virginia, 22,000 confederate troops Were waiting at Bull Run Creek While the North tried to make it across Bull Run Creek the South expanded to 32,000 soldiers The South, Led by Thomas Stonewall Jackson, Drove the North Back who had to retreat The South would win the First Battle of Bull Run, ending the North’s Hope of a QUICK war The Running of the Bulls

4 The Battle of Bull Run…The Sequel
General George B. McClellan Trained an Army of 100,000 Soldiers and Moved to attack Richmond Virginia, but failed to take the Direct Route With McClellan ready to attack Richmond Robert E. Lee took control of the Southern Army and attacked Union troops forcing them to retreat from Richmond Abraham Lincoln Ordered a Direct Attack of Richmond and General John Pope Faced off against Stonewall Jackson in the Second Battle of Bull Run Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson would destroy Union Troops forcing them to retreat, causing Robert E. Lee to Plan an attack on the North The Battle of Bull Run…The Sequel

5 Robert E. Lee Split his troops up and Attacked the North where Stonewall Jackson would capture Harper’s Ferry While Lee tried to Convince Maryland to join the South Lee’s Plans for the north would be found by McClellan but he would not attack, allowing Jackson and Lee to Reunite at the Battle of Antietam 12,000 Union Soldiers would be killed along with 13,000 Confederate Soldiers making the battle more deadly than the Revolutionary war, the War of 1812, and the Mexican-American War Combined McClellan would Not Follow Lee’s Troops back down south, angering Lincoln, but still ending Lee’s campaign in the North It’s a Bloody Battle

6 As the North Continued to Blockade Southern Ports, the south used smaller faster ships to out run the northern navy and trade for goods in the Bahamas The South began to use Ironclads to fight, and destroy the Northern wooden Ships Forcing the North to Build their own Ironclad Ships The Monitor would feature a revolving gun tower and thick iron plates and would be able to force the Virginia to retreat protecting the Northern Blockade The Ironclads would end the Naval Reliance on wooden ships The Dawn of a New Era

Led By Ulysses S. Grant , western troops would push to capture and control the Mississippi River Grant’s Army would move through Tennessee capturing Two important Outposts, Fort Henry and Fort Donelson leading to Shiloh Church As grant Waited for more troops from Ohio he would drill his new recruits preparing them for the Battle of Shiloh After TWO days of Bloody Battle, Southern general A.S. Johnston would be killed along with 10,000 troops from each side, but Grant and the North would win the Battle Is this a Neil Diamond Song?

8 As Grant moved his troops down the Mississippi River, David Farragut moved 18 ships and 700 men to capture New Orleans Farragut tried to quickly sneak his ships past New Orleans Forces and were met with heavy gunfire from southern Troops even using burning rafts to burn Farragut’s wooden ships Farragut would move past the attacks and capture New Orleans, Baton Rouge Louisiana, and Natchez Mississippi before heading to Vicksburg Mississippi Ragin’ Cajuns

9 A new Meaning for Dog Food
Capturing Vicksburg Mississippi became the top priority for the Union Troops as it stood 200 feet above the Mississippi River and offered protection for the River Unable to capture Vicksburg, Grant Surrounded the City to Starve the city and attack it until they Surrender People in the City were forced to eat horses, dogs, and rats and with the Threat of Mutiny the city would surrender The Fall of Vicksburg marked the beginning of the Northern victory in the west, and completed the North’s Anaconda Plan A new Meaning for Dog Food

10 How the Far West was NEVER won
As the Civil War Moved to the Far West, Union Troops defeated the Confederates in Colorado and Arizona The confederates also failed to capture and control Missouri and the confederates tried to team up with the Cherokee Indians to help defeat the North Union Forces would defeat the Native American and Confederate troops pushing them out of Missouri The Confederates would continue to attack Missouri and Kansas but would never control the states How the Far West was NEVER won
