2. What is Copyright?
“Copyright gives the creators of some types of media rights to control how they're used and distributed. Music, books, video and software can all be covered by copyright law.”

Copyright is a right the creator of the product/work has. This means that when copying work you must ask permission from the creator to use their work. Furthermore you could list the website/creators name in a bibliography.
It is very easy to copy someone else's work and a common method of doing this is to ‘copy & paste’. However if you do not ask for permission or list the sources used then you can get into a lot of trouble.
To prevent this from happening many pictures have a watermark over the top.
Research Methods: This information about copyright is from my own knowledge, I have learnt this from taking imedia as a subject for GCSE.

Research Method: This is secondary research taken from the website linked below. This method was useful to me as I had no knowledge about the types of software's and laws against it, therefore this website helped me to get a better understanding.

4. How Easy is it to Copyright?
Primary Research - Questionnaire
It is so easy to take a published song off the internet, download it and make it you own just by adding a few different sound and cuts.
Youzik is a website where you can download any song of YouTube.
Adobe Audition is a software used to record/create your own sounds and share them, however this programme can be used inappropriately to import a file from YouTube that isn’t your work.

Have you ever used it?
I have but not frequently, I use youzik once in a while.
What are your opinions on using the website to copyright?
I think music is quite expensive to buy today, I find it easier and cheaper to just download.
Are you aware of the copyright law and the repercussions?
I know that your not meant to use someone else's work without their permission or linking where you got your information from, but other than that I'm not aware of the full copyright law.
After knowing what you know now, would you still consider using this website?
Maybe not, but this happens everyday and you don’t really hear about it anymore. Maybe they should enforce better laws.
Research Method: This information is from my own knowledge. However I also conducted a questionnaire to ask my peers to see if they had heard of the website ‘Youzik’. This was effective as it enabled me to get better results. By conducting this questionnaire what I found out has bettered my results and made my research more interesting.

5. Case Studies Opinions of others
“I'm shocked at how similar they sound. It sounds like someone has just kept the same video but just tweaked it a little so call it their own.”
“Both songs have the same flow and rhythm, they sound identical.”
Avril Lavignes ‘The best damn thing’ and Taylor Swifts ‘Shake it off’.
Both songs have the same rhythm and same pace in exactly the same places. Also the music videos to both songs are very similar in the respect that they both feature cheerleaders for the majority of the video.
Adam Lamberts ‘Ghost Town’ and Justin Biebers ‘Where are u now’
Both songs start the same, slowly and calmly, then they change into somewhat of a dubstep. Both videos also feature some ‘trippy’ movements and weird activities.
Research Methods: This is secondary research. I couldn’t think of any songs myself so I googled ‘Songs that sound similar’ and shockingly many songs came up. So after researching about the different songs that sound similar I listened to them myself and could hear the similarities straight away.
I decided to get some opinions about both songs this was effective as it enabled me to get more accurate results.

6. Blurred Lines VS Got to Give it Up
A jury awarded Marvin Gaye’s children nearly $7.4m after determining singers Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams copied their father’s music to create Blurred Lines, the biggest hit song of 2013.
Research Methods: When using secondary research to google about similar songs. ‘Blurred Lines’ and ‘Got to Give it Up’ were the most popular amongst the others. This interested me so when looking further into both songs I found more information where the law has been involved, this was effective as it allowed me to find out reviews and opinions of others from the internet.
There has previously been a lot of talk about the copyright issue between Pharrell Williams & Robin Thicke VS Marvin Gaye.
The two songs show massive similarities, using the same tempo, rhythm and timing. However Robin said he was not present when the song was written and Williams agreed to pay any fees that may occur if a copyright issue is raised.

7. Research Evaluation
Throughout this task I used research methodologies such as primary and secondary. Both methods were useful as they allowed me to get the views and opinions of others by interviewing them. Using secondary research was effective as it allowed me to gain facts and images.
