3 Sub Tub By: Tiffany Howe

4 Purpose of a sub “tub” When you wake up at 2 am throwing up and you know you won’t make it to school, you will be so glad that you have sub materials ready to go!  This class is for you!  Today we will be discussing these things: What is a sub “Tub”? Share and show ideas on how to create sub activities where students are using their musical knowledge. Discuss how to use technology with 3rd-5th grade for sub activities

5 Sub “Tub” A sub tub is a combination of a sub binder and activities that students can do while you are out that allow them to use their musical knowledge. A sub binder is important because the sub needs to be able to access important information. It is very important that you have this ready to go before school starts!!

6 Sub Binder- What needs to be in it?
A sub binder is a 1 inch binder that has all the information that a sub would need to be able to manage your classes effectively. These things are recommended in your sub binder: Daily schedule, and any modified schedules Lesson plans for the day A form for the sub to fill out for the day Important emergency procedures such as red bags, and yellow booklet on emergency procedures such as fire drills, lock down, etc. List of phone numbers to contact in case of emergency such as the nurse, AP, front office and fellow music, art, PE phone numbers I recommend leaving a list of classroom helpers for the sub from each class! Students who have a BIP or IEP’s. Subs do go through confidentiality training and do have an educational need to know.

7 Sub Activities There are many different sub activities out there. These are just a few of things that I have found that work best for me after years of trying different things. Instrument Bingo- students are identifying the instrument picture, name and sound. There is a level B side that will challenge 3rd-5th graders. TEK 1- student describes and analyzes musical sound Music Styles Bingo- students play bingo but have to listen and identify the genre of music. Students really like this. TEK 5.C Show sub tub-these are activities that were made from a previous training 4 or 5 years ago. These activities are labeled with the appropriate grade level. I recommend spending two Fridays (if you do Friday rotation) going through the sub tub activities the first six weeks of school. Treble Twist up- I found this off Teacher Pay Teachers

8 Technology and quaver MUSIC CURRICULUM
Google classroom- show Google classroom projects I used with students last year. THIS WAS LIFESAVER LAST YEAR WHEN I HAD TO BE ABSENT BECAUSE THE STUDENTS ALREADY KNEW WHAT TO DO ON THE PROJECT. I ASSIGNED A LARGER PROJECT FOR THEM AND THEY WORKED ON IT SEVERAL WEEKS THROUGH OUT THE YEAR. Any other ideas??? Quaver videos- each campus has a jump drive with songs, pdf printables and all the videos on it. Make sure it works. If not, Quaver on how to update. Quaver does have a set of DVD’s as well. You will need a DVD player on hand or an external DVD player (ask your librarian)

9 share sub ideas Share ideas /resources with a partner that you have used for sub activities in your classroom. Sub lesson plan folder in Google Team Drive Ideas shared from the group:
