2 Baptism One of the seven sacraments, it is the first and most necessary as it removes original sin and all sins committed to that point It gives us the life of sanctifying grace in our soul Makes us children of God and members of the Church Symbol-water Ordinary minister-priest or deacon Words (form) of the sacrament-”I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit Matter (material) –water It is one of the Sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation)

3 Benediction A blessing given by God in the Monstrance
The priest or deacon elevates the Blessed Sacrament in the Monstrance and imparts God’s blessing

4 Bible The inspired Word of God
God, working with human authors, reveals himself and his plan for our salvation It is divided into two parts-the Old Testament and the New Testament

5 Blessed Sacrament The Eucharistic presence of God: body, blood, soul and divinity that is reserved in the Tabernacle, which should be located in a worthy place in the Church

6 Charity A supernatural gift from God, imprinted on one’s soul at baptism It enables us to love God above all things and to love our neighbor out of love for God (it helps us live the two great commandments!)

7 Cheerfulness The virtue by which a person lifts the spirit/s of others by encouraging them, or bringing them comfort. A great way to practice this virtue is the apostolate of the smile

8 Children of God What we become when we are baptized
In baptism we receive a share in God’s life through grace

9 Chrism A sacred oil that is blessed by the Bishop on Holy Thursday. The oils are used in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. Sacred Chrism is also used for the anointing of the sick

10 Christmas The Feast in which we celebrate the birth of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Christmas is a holy day of obligation!

11 Church The Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church It is made up of the followers of Jesus who believe the same faith, receive the sacraments and obey the Pope The Church includes those in heaven, purgatory and on earth (the Church Triumphant, Suffering and Militant)

12 Commandments Also known as precepts They are God’s laws of love
They guide us in our love of God and neighbor

13 The Ten Commandments You shall have no other god’s before me
You shall not take the name of God in vain You shall keep holy the Sabbath (Sunday) You shall honor your father and mother You shall not kill You shall not commit adultery You shall not steal You shall not lie (bear false witness) You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods
