Reading, Math, Science, & Social Studies Daily Work 75% Major Assessment 20% Homework 5% 7

8 CCISD Grading Policies
Late Work 1 day = 90% credit 2 days = 80 % credit 3 or more days= 50% credit Any work not turned in by the end of the grading period will be recorded as a zero. Correct and Redo (Applies only to tests) 70 is highest grade recorded for reevaluations done in class. 8

9 What if my child is struggling?
You will be informed. Conferences will be scheduled so we can work together to find a solution. Tutorials will be offered beginning in mid-late September. They will be offered to students with the greatest needs first. Times are based on individual teacher availability. A student success team will be formed if necessary to create a plan to address individual needs. 9

10 Skyward Notification Grades
If you are interested, instructions on how to set notifications about your child's graded assignments are available for you to pick up.

11 Our conference time is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:20 – 9:05

12 Planner Agenda is completed each morning in homeroom.
The students will be going to Block classes at 8:20 and the planner is to be copied in homeroom (8:00- 8:15). If your child is late, it is his/her responsibility to get it done during the day. Check your child’s planner nightly for communication from teachers and assignments.

13 District Wide Core Values
Trustworthiness Respect Responsibility Fairness Caring Citizenship These 6 core values replace what the district has been using on the report card for behavior.

14 Behavior and Expectations Reflection Sheet
A “Reflection Sheet” will be filled out by your child if behavior skill instructions was received by him/her. The sheet will go home for a parent’s signature and needs to be returned to school the next day. This replaces conduct marks in 5th grade.

15 Friday Folders (Green Folder)
Contains graded papers for the week Papers need to be removed each Friday and signature page needs to be signed Folder returned each Monday morning Important papers, signed papers, etc. should be given to the teacher, not put in the Friday Folder.

16 Morning Procedures Doors are unlocked at 7:45 a.m. Classrooms open at 8:00 am. Breakfast is served beginning at 7:45 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m. Any student who arrives at school after 8:15 a.m. must go to the office to obtain a tardy slip. 16 16

17 Reading Each day will include a reading lesson that utilizes a workshop model to practice skills being taught in class Students read for an extended period of time each day in school

18 Reading Continued Students are required to complete 30 minutes of reading each night. Reading logs are given out on Friday and are due the following Friday. Reading STAAR will be on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

19 Math Class work will include use of number talks, whole group instruction, math stations, small group lessons, independent work, utilizing manipulatives, journaling, and computer programs….. Math Explorers – students who “test out” of a unit Expect minutes of homework nightly Monday – Thursday on a variety of topics to reinforce their math skills.

PROBLEM SOLVING & FACT MASTERY are CRITICAL for success in 5th grade math Math STAAR: Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

21 Science Activity/lab based curriculum
District NO LONGER REQUIRES all fifth graders to produce a Science Fair project. Science Fair information will be sent home in the next several weeks. If you child is interested in attending Seabrook Intermediate Science Magnet Program, it would be in their best interest to complete a Science Fair Project * Fifth graders will take a Science STAAR test on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

22 Social Studies Social Studies Alive! And other resources.
Focus in Fifth Grade: American History We will keep a History Notebook as well as complete assignments online. Students will complete the living museum project in May. New: Know all states and capitals.

23 Tablet Deployment – September 7, 2016
Tablets will stay at school. The expectations of proper digital citizenship is upheld at Parr. Please refer to the district's online usage guidelines. You child should have a working pair of headphone (at all times) which is to be kept at school – part of their supplies.

24 Nurse Information All medication must be brought to the nurse (even cough drops) Students who are ill or seriously injured prior to the school day should be kept home until improved (fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication) or released by a physician. Please do not send ill or injured students to school to be diagnosed by school personnel. Conditions requiring exclusion from school include: Temperature of 100° or more Vomiting or has vomited during the night  Rash or skin infection other than poison ivy  Diarrhea  Contagious diseases or infestations - including but not limited to scabies, impetigo, conjunctivitis, live lice, and varicella

25 Washington DC Trip: This is not a school sponsored trip. Mrs. Surber and Mrs. Bissett will be coordinating. Parent Information Meeting (at this time): Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in the library Information coming soon....

26 Dress for Success Shorts Shoes
Longer than fingertips when hands by side No flip flops or shower shoes (need back strap on sandals) Shirts Tennis shoes required for gym Cover midriff Wear sleeves Please label all coats, backpacks, hats, jackets, etc. Tank tops allowed if layered with a shirt over it Jerseys allowed if worn with a shirt under it 26
