1 Greenhouse Effect Lab Page 71

2 Page 71 Question: Does having greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere affect temperature? Variables: Independent Variable: Atmosphere with gasses vs. no atmosphere Dependent variable: temperature Controls: same amount of sand, same heating time, same lamp, measuring the temperature of the air (not the sand) Hypothesis: If we heat a world with an atmosphere and a world without an atmosphere then ________________ will heat up faster, because ________________________.

3 Page 71 Obtain 2 beakers of the same size
Materials: 2 beakers of same size 2 thermometers Sand 1 heat lamp 1 Gallon size plastic bag Procedures: Obtain 2 beakers of the same size Fill each beaker with sand up to 300 mL Place a thermometer in each beaker resting on top of the sand. (measure the temp of the air) Place one of the beakers in a gallon size plastic bag and zipper seal it. Leave the other out of the bag. Record temp for time zero Place beakers under the heat lamp equal distant from heat. Turn on heat lamp Record temperature every minute for 30 minutes When done turn off heat lamp and clean up supplies. Do not throw out sand or bag.

4 data Page 72-73 Create a data chart Page 74: graph data
Page 75: conclusion complete sentences 3 observations about your data in general 3 similarities in data between the beakers 3 differences in data between the beakers What else would make the Earth warm? Time (minutes) Temperature covered beaker (C) Temperature uncovered beaker (C) 1 30
