2 It is called this because of the importance it gives to listening comprehension. There are some similar approaches to the comprehension like: Natural approach – Learnable approach – Lexical approach Introduction

3 How to apply TPR in TEFL Class p. 109 -110
1- Introduce the method to your student in Arabic 2- your Ss will not speak but rather they will listen to you and do what you do 3- you will need some volunteers 4- They will sit next to you facing their friends. 5- Only volunteers and you can speak the others will listen and follow you 6- you will give them some commands in English “TL” and they will do the actions with you How to apply TPR in TEFL Class p

4 7- you can start for example by saying “stand up” something they never heard before 8- you will stand up so they will do as you 9- Then you ask them to do like you “many times” 10- If Ss make an error, you need to repeat the command while acting it out 11- Use different commands and do the same 12- Write the new commands n the board 13- Later you will just give the command and your Ss will do the action alone.

To reduce the stress students feel when studying foreign languages. To encourage them to persist in their study beyond a beginning level. 2. Teacher’s role: Teacher is the director of all students’ behavior. 3. Students’ role: They are imitators of their teacher nonverbal model. TPR Principles

6 4. Teaching characteristics: - Giving Ss some commands
- Perform the action with them - Ss perform the commands alone - Ss learn to read & write these commands - Students at the end speak and give commands 5. T-S / S-S interaction: Teacher interacts with the whole class “individually and group” Students perform the actions together. They can learn by watching each other.

TPR is usually introduced in students’ native language, but after that TL is used. 10. students’ evaluation: Observing students’ actions individually. 11. Respond to students’ errors: Teacher correct only major errors.
