6 Simple to Compound Rule 1. Participle +simple sentence
Note : In a compound sentence each clause is a principal clause and the following co –ordinating conjunction are usually used in it : and, but, or, both and, not only ……..but also, neither ……. Nor ,either…….. Or , otherwise ,therefore , on the contrary etc . Rules of simple sentence to compound sentences: A simple sentence can be converted into a Compound sentence by enlarging a word or A phrase into Co-ordinate clause. Rule 1. Participle +simple sentence Simple: Finishing the work, we went to the play ground . Compound: We finished the work and we went to the play ground .

7 Rule-2 Being /Having/ (Verb + ing) Simple sentence
First Subordinate clause change into Principal clause . After that you have to add and then principal clause (except subject ). Sub +verb (subject and tense will be according to principal clause ) + and+ principal clause

8 I met him having gone there .
Example: Writing book, he wanted to earn money . Simple : Compound : He wrote book and earn money . Simple : I met him having gone there . Compound : I had gone there and met him.

9 Exercise : simple to compound Answer:
a)Finishing the work, we went to the play ground . Answer: a)We finished the work and went to the play ground . b)Being fat , he cannot work hard . Answer: b)He is fat and cannot work hard . c) The water being very cold ,I could not drink it . Answer: c) The water was very cold and I could not drink it . d) Having written the letter, I posted the letter . Answer: d) I had written the letter and I posted the letter . e) The meeting having finished , they returned home . Answer: e) The meeting had finished and they returned home .

10 Rule-3 In spite of/ Despite ( simple sentence)
We have to add ‘But’ between the two clause . Possessive case turn into subject. Verb will be according to principal clause. Noun will be adjective form. Delete the comma. Example: Simple: In spite of/Despite his poverty , the man is honest . He is poor but honest . Compound:

11 Rule-4 In spite/ despite cold, fog, rough weather, impersonal verb +ing Delete the word in spite of/ despite . Subject will be ‘It’. Use to be verb then add rest of sentence (before the comma). ‘But’ will be in place of the comma . Then rest of the sentences . Example: Simple : In spite of rough weather, we reached there on time . Compound : It was rough weather but we reached there on time .

12 Rule-5 Simple sentence Example: Simple :
Without +Gerund (condition) Delete ‘Without’ . Verb will be present form . ‘Or’ will be in place of comma. Then rest of the sentence . Example: Simple : Without going , you will die . Compound : Go or you will die . Or, Go or die.

13 Rule-6 By +Gerund connected Simple sentence Example: Simple :
Delete the ‘By’. Verb will be present form. Then rest sentence before the comma. ‘And’ will be in place of the comma. Then rest of the sentence . Example: Simple : By wasting your time, you can spoil your life . Compound : Waste your time and you can spoil your life.

14 Rule-7 Too ………to related simple sentence Simple :
1. Subject+ to be verb Very will be in place too Adjective ‘And’ replace of the comma Add could not/ could not Rest of the sentence Simple : He is too dull to understand it . Compound : He is very dull can not understand it .

15 Exercise: Simple: The prize is too nice to be used . Compound:
The prize is very nice and can not be used . Being fat , he cannot work hard . Simple: Compound: He is fat and cannot work hard . Simple: The water being very cold ,I could not drink . Compound: The water was very cold and I could not drink . Simple: Despite raining , they visited the flood-affected area . Compound: It was raining but they visited the flood-affected area . Simple: Having written the letter , I posted it . Compound: I had written the letter and posted it .

16 Home work : Transform the following sentences simple to compound:
1. Taking up his basket , the porter followed the girl . Being fat , he cannot work hard . Having fished dinner , they went to bed . Despite his brilliancy , he is neglected . Without moving , you will die . By eating balanced diet , you can be healthy . Turning to the right , I found the bazar .
