My Healthy Living Plan Discuss how each of these 5 topics affects you and some of your successes and/or challenges. I have provided example slides from of our Exemplar for each of the 5 topics .

Healthy Eating This should have some type of reference to the Canada food guide (link is below). Tell us how you eat a balanced diet every day and/or what areas of your diet you need to improve (remember the word diet does not mean 'lose weight' in this instance).

Healthy Eating -According to Canada’s Food Guide, I fulfill the requirements of a healthy and balanced diet -I avoid unnecessarily unhealthy and “junk” foods high in sugars, fats, and sodium -my food guide & nutritional analysis is attached.

Physical Activity This should have some type of reference to your experiences in sport or PE. I have included a couple of links from the provincial and federal ministry websites which discuss the importance of quality daily physical education.

Physical Activity -I cross country ski every winter at Sovereign Lake Nordic Center in Vernon, BC -Season’s pass is $ without taxes for a youth age 13-18 -As a sport, cross country skiing is a supreme combination of cardio/endurance training and strengthening/conditioning -Sovereign Lake offers programs for beginning to advanced skiers -I referee soccer matches for the Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Association, the Okanagan Valley School Sports Association, the Kelowna Women’s Soccer League, and the British Columbia Soccer Premier League -Officiating soccer matches is an excellent way to make money and exercise at the same time, but it is also very complimentary to the university lifestyle because the job offers me the opportunity to choose my own working hours around my university schedule by being able to accept and refuse assignments -I work in an orchard during the summer doing heavy manual labour -I bike to work during the summer -I am planning to join a ballroom dancing club when I get into university

Stress Management Outline some of the major stressors in your life and discuss a few of the ways that you handle stress. Please provide any helpful strategies that you have learned and tell us where you may have picked these up.

Stress Management -I participate in a number of musical groups which help me to relieve stress by focusing my energy in a constructive manner -I plan on auditioning for my university’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble when classes begin -I participate in a number of different physical activities such as cross country skiing and refereeing soccer matches, and I am planning on joining a dancing club upon my initiation of university courses -Physical activity is a scientifically proven method of relieving stress, as it promotes a healthy lifestyle and helps contribute to adequate sleep, which a lack of is considered one of the leading causes of stress in the modern world -my last form of stress management is proactive action to ensure that I do not become stressed in the first place -I complete assignments when I can rather than when I have to (i.e. before the assigned due date)

Adequate Sleep Outline how much sleep you feel is appropriate for your body and tell us how much sleep you are getting. Is there an opportunity for you to improve your sleeping habits? What are the barriers that prevent you from sleeping? Teen Sport Injuries Linked To Lack Of Sleep performance

Adequate Sleep -I manage right now to get around eight hours of sleep each night -the Canadian National Sleep Foundation states that the optimum number of hours of sleep that a teenager should have is just over nine hours. -I plan on improving my sleeping conditions after I graduate because I will be living on my own and not with the unusual schedules of my family -A lack of adequate sleep can lead to many of the same symptoms as stress -increased aggressiveness due to lack of concentration and mental acuity -develops unhealthy eating habits from an imbalance in available energy -lowered immune system performance

Healthy Relationships
What are the most important relationships in your life? Are they healthy? Why is it important for you to help ensure that you continue to contribute to these important relationships in a healthy manner, while ensuring that your friends and family are doing the same? relationships/healthy-family-relationships ship.html

Healthy Relationships
-the activities that I engage in, especially music and cross country skiing, involve meeting a broad range of people and learning to interact with them -Music is only possible by cooperation between large groups of people -cross country skiing is a sport indulged by a very broad group of people, and as such I meet new people almost every time that I run across the trails -I wish to join a ballroom dancing club or class while I am in university -the engagement between people that occurs in a partner based activity like ballroom dancing is an excellent way to build a healthy relationship because it emphasizes communication, trust, and cooperation
