8 Evolution from agreement- to customer-centric licensing
Microsoft US CIO Summit Fall 2011 5/23/2018 Evolution from agreement- to customer-centric licensing 2001 Volume Licensing programs and agreements focused on standardized on-premises licensing On-premises 2011 Updated agreements and new enrollments to support virtualization and cloud licensing Virtualization & cloud-enabled 2012 plus Full on-premises and cloud integration; flexible, user-centric licensing; and unified license and asset management via MPSA Cloud & device proliferation Principles: Flexibility, manageability, and value

9 The easy way to license what you need
All the cloud services and software you need Fast, flexible purchasing More value in one simplified agreement Talking Points: We understand clearly that licensing needs to be an enabler of this new world and that’s why we have been investing to make it easier for you to do business with Microsoft. We have focused our investments on three main areas: Create an easy way to license all the cloud services and on-premises software you need Make sure purchasing is fast and flexible Allow you to realize more value in one simplified agreement Essentially, we’ve been working hard to simplify our licensing models. In response, Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA) is a modern agreement, designed for the mobile-first, cloud-first world. Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA) = the next generation of volume licensing

10 All the cloud services and software you need
Buy Microsoft cloud services and on-premises software Microsoft SQL Server Talking Points: Let’s look at each of these three areas one at a time starting with: All the cloud Services and software you need: Buy Microsoft cloud services and on-premises software With the MPSA you can buy Microsoft’s cloud services as well as on-premises software and you have the flexibility to choose whether to deploy on premises or in the cloud or create a hybrid environment; whatever works best for your organization. For instance, you may deploy Office on-premises or use it as a cloud service with Office 365 or a little of both. Or you can deploy SQL server in your own data center or you can access it in the cloud via Microsoft Azure. Microsoft Azure Online Microsoft Intune

11 Points MPSA More value in a single agreement Price
Optimize your pricing by consolidating purchases in one simplified agreement Points Points Points Points Points Purchasing Account Talking Points: Next, let’s take a look at the ways you get more value in a single agreement. We will start with - Optimize your pricing by consolidating purchases in one simplified agreement. There are many advantage to consolidating your Microsoft purchases into a single agreement. With Purchasing Accounts, points are combined across like Purchasing Accounts to provide the maximum discount available based on the combined purchase volume. Price level adjustments happen automatically, so the best price for your level of purchasing is always what is offered. In addition to optimizing your spend, you also reduce the time it takes to administer and track purchases across multiple agreements. MPSA Price

12 Get price protection for all incremental orders of the same product
More value in a single agreement Benefit from price protection and budget predictability for multiyear subscriptions Cloud services 1 2 3 Purchase year subscriptions Talking Points: More value in a single agreement: Benefit from price protection and budget predictability for multiyear subscriptions With MPSA, you have a number of options when subscribing to cloud services. You can protect pricing for additional purchases when you buy 1, 2 or 3 year subscriptions. This means that the price is established up front and will not change. For additional purchases, you won’t pay more than your first purchase. If you commit for longer than a year, you will benefit from any price reductions on incremental orders if the price changes. This means that you can budget predictably over the subscription term and are protected from price increases. Get price protection for all incremental orders of the same product

13 Fast, flexible purchasing Easily add any number of users and services at any time 250 users 300 users 325 users Cloud services Sign in February 200 users Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Add 50 users in June Add 50 users in August Add 25 users in October Talking Points: Fast and flexible purchasing: Easily add any number of users and services at any time You don’t always know in advance what your cloud services and software needs will be in any given year. To ensure maximum flexibility to meet your changing needs, MPSA allows you to subscribe to cloud services for any number of users, as needed. That gives you the flexibility to add or migrate users and applications to the cloud. In the example above: You sign your MPSA in January and buy cloud services for 200 users. In June, you hire 50 people and you add 50 additional licenses. The following year in August, you expand your workforce again and buy 50 more license. And so on. This means that you only buy what you need, when you need it.

14 How it works Contoso wants to buy MPSA through their MPSA and are willing to commit to a 3-year subscription Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 They initially buy 500 subscriptions and establish their price for 3 years 500 ECS In year 2, they add 100 subscriptions and even though the market price has increased, they pay their protected price 100 ECS Talking Points: Let’s take a look at how you would buy ECS through your MPSA Contoso buys a 3-year ECS subscription through MPSA. They sign up for MPSA and start using ECS immediately. Their initial purchase established the maximum price they pay for subsequent purchases during the term which is fortunate, because when they decide to add 100 more subscriptions the next year, the price has gone up. Their 3-year subscription includes price protection so they pay the lower protected price. Once their subscription expires at the end of the third year, they simply renew 600 new subscriptions for another 3 years. In year 4, they renew for another 3 years 600 ECS

15 Fast, flexible purchasing
Choose from monthly to multi-year subscription durations Cloud services 3 year 2 year Multi-year subscriptions 1 year Short term subscriptions Microsoft Azure Quarter Talking Points: Fast and flexible purchasing: Choose from monthly to multi-year subscription durations – or pay-as-you-go for Azure We recognize that organizations have different budgetary and cash flow needs. That is why the MPSA offers a range of subscription options. Multi-year subscriptions: With MPSA, you also have the option to subscribe to cloud services for 1, 2 or 3 years. This allows you to budget more predictably. Short term subscriptions: (coming in a future release) Many organizations need to make temporary staffing increases to accommodate project needs or to support their seasonal business. These organizations now have the option to license a range of cloud services on a short-term basis through MPSA – for less than 12 months. Short-term subscriptions ensure that organizations can save money by paying for only what temporary workers need. Microsoft Azure pay-as-you-go: For Azure you can pay only for what you use through MPSA. Without having to make an upfront monetary commitment, you can use as much or as little Azure as you need and pay only for what you use. Start using Azure today and pay for what you use at the end of each quarter. Quarter Pay-as-you-go Quarter Quarter

16 All the cloud services and software you need
Quickly provision services you need, including enterprise editions, with minimal setup Microsoft Volume Licensing Center Licenses and Services Downloads and Keys Agreements Orders Online Services User Management Help Talking Points: All the cloud services and software you need: Quickly provision services you need, including enterprise editions, with minimal setup One of the areas we have focused on is time-to-use. Today, with the MPSA, employees can quickly access the productivity tools they need with minimal setup. You can easily self-provision cloud services including enterprise editions via the online portal for immediate access.

17 How it works Ideal for organizations that want to buy cloud services and on-premises software Electronic agreement review and signature process – non-expiring agreement – only 8 pages Purchase points are combined with automatic price level adjustments Set up purchasing accounts for different groups via a simple one-page registration Talking Points: Let’s take a look at how the MPSA works in a little more detail: MPSA is recommended for commercial, government, healthcare and academic organizations that want to buy cloud services and on-premises software without a requirement to buy licenses for everyone in the organization. There are no purchase minimums to get started with an MPSA, just review and sign the agreement online and you can start buying. And since MPSA does not expire, you won’t have to go through any agreement renewal process. While there are no purchase minimums to start, there are some requirements to continue purchasing through the MPSA. Let’s take a look at purchase points. Purchase Points: Microsoft categorizes products into three distinct pools with tiered price levels: Applications, Systems and Servers. Each product you buy is assigned a number of points and a pool. The more you buy, the more points you achieve and the lower the price you pay for the product. Points are combined across like Purchasing Accounts so you always achieve the most beneficial price level. (government and academic organizations each have a single price level). To continue buying through MPSA, an organization must reach 500 points or buy at least 250 seats of a cloud service in a single product pool by each year anniversary. Let’s dive in a little deeper. Points from both cloud services and software purchases across all like Purchasing Accounts (commercial, government, academic) are combined, so customers automatically receive the best available discount for every purchase based on the points per pool. Note: Commercial organizations also automatically get the next discount price level for a pool as soon as they meet the corresponding annual point minimums. The order that qualifies you for the next discount threshold (for example, Level A to Level B) receives the discount. All subsequent orders across the organization with the same account type receive the new price level automatically. No purchase minimums to enter; reach the minimum purchase within one year

To enroll in an SCE, you will make an installed base-wide commitment to one or more components. This means committing to full Software Assurance coverage across the installed base of an SCE component. Products available under SCE include Windows Server with System Center, which support workloads like Virtualization and Identify Management, BizTalk Server for integration, Microsoft Azure for cloud computing, Visual Studio for development and SQL Server for data management, datacenter and analytics workloads. Benefits of SCE: The SCE is designed to build a high-value licensing foundation for customers adopting Microsoft’s server and cloud technologies. It does so across three key benefits: The SCE is a cloud-enabled enrollment. The SCE provides new flexible terms for Microsoft Azure, better Microsoft Azure pricing, application license mobility to the cloud through SA, new System Center benefits for managing Microsoft Azure resources, and new subscription options. The SCE better enables customers to deploy a common platform spanning Microsoft server and cloud technologies. SCE customers have the opportunity to access Microsoft’s latest technologies and benefits through Software Assurance across all deployments.
