An essay about my photojournalism workshop
Art and culture is the Theme for my photo story. This concept is part and partial of humanity, the way we live, what and how we come to appreciate is udoughfully achieved through art ad culture, the former to basically mean endowed talent to people who have the ability to imagine, observe and rig into visually portraits of objects such as nature, humanity that we identify our lives, emotions with into reality. The latter refers to a defied way of life and set patterns of beliefs for a given society, it includes cultural instruments used for various purposes especially for events that aim at emtertaimemt. The Angle to this photo story is on the Appreciating culture through the art it entails, ad how people identify themselves with it. In short, Appreciating art through culture, and identifying ourselves with different cultures through the art that it uncovers to and for us. I think the sequence of my photos best tells the story of art ad culture when some cultural sites like Kasui toms which is well known to people of Uganda , used as the establishment shot; followed with most medium shots that help tell a story in a more detailed way. The photos are mostly portraits of human subject/people showing the elements of action, emotion as per different cultures entitles. As well as objects including cultural houses, and instruments like drums, pots. Some also include art normally found in art galleries or onto the walls.[two hundred and forty five words]

A long /establishment shot showing Kasubi tombs, a Buganda cultural site in Kampala.

The official entrance to the Kasubi tombs ‘Bujjabukula’ built in 1882
The official entrance to the Kasubi tombs ‘Bujjabukula’ built in The technique of use of natural light is applied in to the dark way ,and made it visible. The technique of the leading limes is as well achieved. These are the poles o the sides.

The hut, a traditional house in Buganda culture managed by Kawuula, contains cultural instruments like drums at kasubi tombs. A medium shot taken from a lower view angle, showing closer details of the objects. It is a signature photograph to the theme. Ad there is emphasis to this photograph by its placement, in the middle of the frame.

A portrait of a lion drawn on the royal gate at kasui toms representing the power of the king I this respect, Muwenda Mutebi of Buganda. It is a medium shot trying to bring out the element of silhouette, the outline image as a reflection of the object achieved with the use of light. The rule of thirds also applies since the object is not placed in the middle

Cultural dance performance at Ndere cultural centre, the home of cultures in Kisaasi on 18TH June ,excites the people. A long shot taken at the eye level, establishes the event in context. It is a detail photograph. The technique of balance where all objects carry equal visual weight.

During the cultural gala at Ndere centre, the karamajongs blowing the horn , a traditional instrument that produces musical sound while entertaining the people. A medium shot showing the element of Unity in action and purpose-of entertaining the people. This achieved y the technique of repetition and patterns in the photograph.

An artillery created by small pots, the cultural objects that make the compound at Ndere centre look good and appealing. The depth of field is applied here where the background is blurred and the pots-the object in focus are sharp. The technique of emphasis is therefore achieved.

Acholi dancers using their ‘Agwala’ instrument entertaining people at Ndere cultural centre on 18TH Sunday at 8:00pm. A photograph of an individual showing an emotion of anger, and the technique of proximity to the subject is achieved.

Cultural dance by abamasaaba that involves men proving their supernatural strength by jumping high, performed at Ndere centre on Sunday18THJune at 9pm. The technique of space is used, i.e. the active which is occupied by the person in action, and the dead which provides the details that He is performing before a crowd of people. The rule of thirds is applied as well.

Portraits of art designed by hand onto the wall of one of the structures at ndere cultural centre in kisaasi, showing three men well dressed in cultural attires, signing ad playing cultural instruments. It is the closure photograph for my story. It is a close up that provides for every detail the about the event. The concept of framing is observed here, dome through the eye viewer as for the purpose of focusing on the event.
