1 DEE 3061 – COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD)

2 History The beginnings of CAD can be traced to year 1957, when Dr. Patrick J. Hanratty developed PRONTO, the first commercial numerical-control programming system. In 1960, Ivan Sutherland MIT's Lincoln Laboratory created SKETCHPAD, which demonstrated the basic principles and feasibility of computer technical drawing. shamsuddin©

3 ruhiyahnazihah© Defination of CAD What is (CAD)???

4 CAD is Computer Aided Design
Allow to accomplish design and drafting activities using a computer

5 Computer aided design Is a tools that can be used for design and drafting activities To make ‘rough’ idea drawings, although it is more suited to creating accurate finished drawings and renderings. Can be used to create a 2D and 3D computer model of the product or system shamsuddin©

6 design Design - process of making an idea into a real product/system (sketches, drawings, renderings, 2D models, 3D models, prototypes, testing, analysis and documentation)

7 Computer System Requirements for CAD
Input Devices - A Cad system may use one or more combination input devices. Keyboard, mouse, and scanner. Output Devices - Printer, plotter, Central Processing Unit - Minimum requirements (At least 800 MHz Pentium III, 512 mb of RAM)

8 Computer System Requirements for CAD
Display Device - Monitor with Super Video Graphic Arrays (SGVA) -1024x768 resolution display. Storage Device - 750MB Hard disk, diskette, and compact disk. Latest version of windows - (Windows 7, Vista, XP). Not applicable for Windows NT, 98 and Me

9 Differentiate CAD with manual / conventional drawing

12 Advantages of CAD ???????? Disadvantages ????

13 Application of CAD CAD is an important industrial art extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design. CAD is also widely used to produce computer animation for special effects in movies, advertising and technical manuals.
