They usually have a good character and an evil character.
They might involve magic or enchantment.
A woodland/forest or castle is usually mentioned.
There is always a problem, that is eventually solved and the good characters live happily ever after.

One way to fracture a fairy tale is to do a “resistant reading”. This means you take the one or more of the genre conventions and change it to its opposite. See examples below:
Prince saves princess…change to…princess saves prince
Good always wins…change to…evil wins
Wicked stepmother…change to…overly kind stepmother
Cute animals help princess….change to…cute animals are evil

following points:
Changing the setting.
Changing the personalities of your characters.
Writing the tale from the another character’s view point.
