Ma’at Today: Djoser and his bomb-diggety crib

2 Things to understand from chapter 3
Egyptian history is divided into periods(see p.28) Each period deals with certain dynasties. Long periods of stability were called “kingdoms” such as old, middle, or new kingdom. Egyptians trade gold or grain for wood Imhotep designed a burial complex for Djoser(truly united upper and lower Egypt) This huge complex included the first pyramid - a step pyramid

10 Assignment: Monday, October 15
The purpose of this assignment is for you to show me you understand how symbolism like the kind used in the Narmer Palette can tell an important story. Instructions: Take a historic or personal event and turn it into a scene like the scene in the Narmer Palette. You will tell a story using only images and symbols Your finished project will consist of: 1. drawing of your palette (2 sides) 2. one page summary of the palette where you explain what we are seeing.

11 How Do You Do This? 1. Decide on your event (I’ll help you with this on Thursday) 2. Pick something that has some importance. (either to you or in history) 3.Tell the story of the event. Who is involved? What did they do and who did they do it to? Why is this important? Examples: 9/11, The 2004 election, war in Iraq, Declaration of Independence, Emancipation Proclamation, Columbus arrives in the New World, Your graduation, your team wins a big game, when you learned to ride a bike, you got your driver’s license.

12 How Do You Do This (continued)
2. Write a draft of the story. In this draft explain who is involved and what happened. Make sure to describe the important details of the event and why it was important. If you are doing a historical event you may need to do some additional research

13 How Do You Do This (continued)
3. Sketch the ideas for your palette. You may draw a series of scenes instead of one big picture. (see example) On Monday we will look over your drafts and your sketches to see how you are

14 How Will I Be Graded? The project has a potential for 45 points.
You will be graded in 5 categories. Look at the rubric.

15 There are symbols present whose meaning is clear and consistently used
