2 Calling a Foul Blow the whistle sharply so EVERYONE can hear it
Raise your arm with a closed fist Communicate with your partner(s) what you have: Whose ball is it? Location of throw-in or free throws?

3 Types of Fouls: Block or Charge?
Illegal body contact which impedes the progress of an opponent with or without the ball. Charge Illegal body contact caused by an offensive player pushing or moving a defensive player who has legal position. VS Legal Guarding Position: Legally get to the spot first Both feet must be on the floor The front of the body must be facing opponent

4 Types of Fouls: Hack Illegal contact with the ball handler that is generally directed towards the arm of the ball handler.

5 Types of Fouls: Hand Check
Contact by the defensive player which impedes the forward or lateral movement of the ball handler.

6 Types of Fouls: Push Displacing an opponent from their previous position using their body or arms. This type of foul is most often called on rebounds for “over the back” fouls.

7 Types of Fouls: Hold Grabbing a player that hinders the player’s movement

8 Reporting a Foul 4 Things to Report to Scorer’s Table (take your time): Jersey Color of team committing the foul (White or Red) Number of player who committed the foul (23) Type of Foul (Push, Hold, Hack, etc.) Use proper hand signal Result after the foul Shooting free throws (indicate how many) Throw-in from out of bounds (indicate where and team)

14 Back Court Violation 3 Points across rule 2 feet and ball Free Throws Lane people may move once ball is released Shooter and people outside lane may not enter until ball hits the rim Last Second Shots Trail Official has this call Kicked Ball Must be a purposeful kick If thrown off the defender’s leg, it isn’t a kick 5 Second Counts Holding Ball Closely guarded dribble 3 Second Violations Resets after every shot

16 Arriving/Checking In Check Schedule for Location (East/West State or Beyer) Arrive ON TIME Bring your whistle to every shift! Check in with the supervisor(s) Sign in on the payroll sheet! Know your IM ID number Supervisor will assign you your court Grab equipment for court if necessary ALL referees will wear a referee shirt

17 Checking In Players Participants MUST have some form of photo ID
ISU ID card preferred (needed it to enter the facility) Driver’s license OK No ID = NO PLAY PRINT names (FULL names) and their NetIDs LEGIBLY on scorecard And jersey numbers

19 Jewelry Studs, ring bands ok Dangly, hoops, etc earrings NOT legal
No necklaces No rubber bands on arms

20 Sub Reporting Policy If you have a sub work your shift, YOU are responsible for reporting who is subbing for you. Fill out the form online If you do not fill out the sub form and neither of you show up, YOU will be held accountable for missing the shift

21 Playing While Working NO employee will be paid if they are playing in a game Make sure you are signing out for any time not working me if you are scheduled to work and play at the same time

22 3 Strike Policy Any combination of 3 disciplinary offenses will result in termination of employment However, any single offense could ultimately lead to your dismissal
