2 How to Effectively Acquire New Vocabulary
Step 1: Physically look up the vocabulary word in a print dictionary or online dictionary. Mentally “take-in” the visual of the vocabulary word and then “take-in” the definition. Step 2: Fill out your vocabulary note card with the word on the front of the card and the definition, part of speech, and a sample sentence that uses the word along with a context clue to help you understand the word, on the back of the card. Step 3: Vocabulary Art work: Provide an illustration or scenario scene of your vocabulary word. This could include a simple depiction or a detailed image of the vocabulary word. Be sure that the meaning of the vocabulary word can be inferred by simply looking at your picture or scenario. Step 4: Vocabulary Activities: Complete Vocabulary Research Practices to more deeply understand your new vocabulary words.
