Biology Journal Template used for creating The biology (science) notebook

Biology Journal o Purpose for the Journal: o To help the student master the required course content o To develop a time management / study schedule that will help the student organize and complete the assigned content material o To develop a collection of work that can be used as a study guide for each testable unit in this course

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal: o Leaning Log o Section vocabulary o Classroom notes o Section review and work sheet o Section assignments (projects)

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Learning Log: o this section requires each student to develop a systematic approach in determining whether or not he/she accomplished the learning objective for each class period. o Starting on October 18 the log should have a daily entry o The log should include the following: o the daily learning objective o what the student learned during that class period o If the student had any difficulty in the mastering the material the log should include what he / she will be doing to master the course material

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Learning Log Example: Learning What I Additional Date Objective Learned Study Plan 10/18 learn the differentthe difference betweenwhy would liver structures/functionssmooth and rough ERcells have more smooth of Eukaryotic cellsER than rough

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section vocabulary: o Each unit (which could include one or more chapters) has its own unique lexicon. o The vocabulary used within each section is an important part of understanding and communicating the key concepts presented in each unit. o Vocabulary terms can be found at the beginning of each section under “ Vocabulary ” o Students are required to maintain a vocabulary section in their notebook that demonstrates the students ability to understand and use the vocabulary properly.

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section vocabulary: o This section can be completed in 2 different ways. Each way will have its own assigned point value. o Unit Paragraph : using each word identified in each unit the student can synthesize a unique paragraph using each word from the vocabulary list (20 points). o The paragraph must be in complete sentences, the vocabulary word must “ bolded ” and ‘ underlined ”. o The paragraph must not have and run on sentences.

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section vocabulary: o This section can be completed in 2 different ways. Each way will have its own assigned point value. o Definitions : the second alternative is for students to simply define the words using the glossary from the back of the book. Because this provide no unique or creative activity this technique is on worth 15 points.

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section Classroom Notes: o Each student has access to my chapter lecture notes. o Student can get my lecture notes from the classroom web page. o Each student is required to download and prints these notes in the 3 slides per page format and bring the printed slides to class. o During the lecture portion of each unit students are required to add additional notes to the lecture note as the lecture is given. The more additional notes that are added by the student the more points a student will earn in this section (see rubric for point details). If no additional notes are added no points are earned towards the final journal grade.

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section Review and Workbook Problems: o At the beginning of each chapter the teacher will provide section review and section work sheets on the class web page. o The purpose of the work sheets is to enhance the learning process for each student as the students reads the section assignments. o As the student reads each assigned section he/she can answer each questions as part of the reading process. o The completed sheets will be graded with the submission of the notebook

Biology Journal o Required Sections for the Journal : o Section Assignments (Projects): o During each section certain projects will be assigned to enhance or elaborate on key concepts. o These projects could be assigned as individual or group projects. o Example: design and create a poster board that documents the time line of the development of the cell theory.
