Judaism: An Overview Origins, beliefs and impact.

2 Introduction Judaism developed 3,000 years ago, making it one of the world’s oldest religions. There are nearly 14 million followers of Judaism in the world today. The Judeo-Christian tradition is a major influence on our society today.

3 Beliefs Judaism is a monotheistic religion.
They believe that people were created in (their) God’s image to act ethically (to do the right thing).

4 Abraham God tells a shepherd named Abraham to leave his home and go to Canaan. Abraham believes in and obeys God so God makes a covenant with Abraham that the land of Canaan would belong to his descendants.

5 The Ten Commandments The most important laws in Judaism. Told the Israelites how to behave toward God and other people.

6 Legacy of the Ten Commandments
Their belief that they have a covenant with God is why these laws are important to the Jewish people today. The Ten Commandments have also been an important influence on the American system of laws.
